Every Breath You Take: Imec and miDiagnostics Launch a Revolutionary Breathalyzer Test for COVID-19 and Beyond

In this episode of Fish Fry, Peter Peumans (Imec) joins me to discuss an exciting breakthrough in COVID-19 testing spearheaded by miDiagnostics and Imec. We take a closer look at what sets this new kind of testing method apart from other testing methods on the market today, the details of Imec’s silicon chip technology that lies at the heart of this new technology, and how this kind of testing method could revolutionize how we test for other infectious diseases in the future. Also this week, we check out a new 3D printing method developed by a team of researchers from the University of Notre Dame and Purdue University that integrates functional and structural materials into a single streamlined printing platform.

How to Fast-Charge Your Supercapacitor

Sponsored by Analog Devices

Supercapacitors (or ultracapacitors) are suited for short charge and discharge cycles. They require high currents for fast charge as well as a high voltage with a high number in series as shown in two usage cases: an automatic pallet shuttle and a fail-safe backup system. In these and many other cases, the fast charge is provided by a flexible, high-efficiency, high-voltage, and high-current charger based on a synchronous, step-down, supercapacitor charger controller.

ROHM's KX132-1211 & KX134-1211 Accelerometers

Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and ROHM Semiconductor

Machine health monitoring is a key benefit in the Industry 4.0 revolution. Integrating data from sensors for vibration detection, motion detection, angle measurement and more can give a remarkably accurate picture of machine health, and timely warning of impending failure. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton chats with Alex Chernyakov of ROHM Semiconductor about the key considerations in machine health monitoring, and how a new line of accelerometers for industrial applications can help.
