VisionTech’s Dirty Dealings in ICs

Over the years people have frequently asked me if I have a favorite podcast episode. My answer is because I have produced so many (we will be celebrating Fish Fry’s 500th episode very soon) that I certainly could not pick a favorite.  But that really isn’t true. This episode is my favorite. There, I said it. Since this episode first aired in 2011 and on a different podcasting platform, it will be new episode for most listeners. Also, don’t bother entering to win an amazon gift certificate. They are long gone.

In this week’s Fish Fry, I dig into the dirty dealings of component house VisionTech. I investigate how one company from Clearwater Florida managed to dupe over a thousand unsuspecting customers out of $16 Million dollars and how these counterfeit ICs have affected our industry.

Use Configurable Digital IO To Give Your Industrial Controller the Edge

Sponsored by Maxim Integrated

As factories get bigger, centralized industrial process control has become difficult to manage. While there have been attempts to simplify the task, it remains unwieldy. In this design solution, we briefly review the centralized approach before looking at what potential changes edge computing will bring to the factory floor. We also show a digital IO IC that allows for smaller, more adaptable programmable logic controllers (PLCs) more suited to this developing architecture.
