McObject Debuts as Featured Partner in Wind River Marketplace Launch

June 17, 2015 — McObject®, provider of the eXtremeDB® real-time database management system (DBMS) product family, joined select embedded systems technology vendors as a featured partner in the launch yesterday of Wind River® Marketplace, Wind River’s new app store for its industry-leading VxWorks® real-time operating system (RTOS). eXtremeDB 6.0 joins a variety of add-on solutions – all tested and validated for seamless interoperability with VxWorks – available for evaluation from the on-line store.

“McObject is pleased to offer eXtremeDB in this new channel created by Wind River. Through it, we are able to reach a vast audience of developers who can benefit from an embedded DBMS that delivers faster time-to-deployment, lower RAM and CPU demands, and ‘five-nines’ (99.999% uptime) or better fault-tolerance. We also build on our longstanding partnership with Wind River that has seen many design wins across all embedded systems market segments, and millions of deployed devices based on our joint solution,” said Steve Graves, McObject CEO and co-founder.

“Wind River customers in segments as diverse as avionics, consumer electronics and communications infrastructure rely on eXtremeDB for their database management technology. By offering a proven solution to manage the growing volumes of data in today’s interconnected embedded systems, McObject’s DBMS helps fulfill Marketplace’s key goal of assisting developers in creating innovative applications that build out the Internet of Things (IoT) with differentiated, industry-leading devices,” said Dinyar Dastoor, vice president and general manager of operating system platforms at Wind River.

Features of the eXtremeDB 6.0 software available through the Wind River Marketplace include the following:

  • A core in-memory database system (IMDS) architecture that delivers database responsiveness measured in microseconds. Optional persistent (on-disk) storage can be added at the level of selected record types.
  • Low latency, scalability, and fault-tolerance through distributed query processing, clustering and high availability sub-systems.
  • Type-safe interface. eXtremeDB’s type-safe C/C++ application programming interface (API) eliminates data typing errors that otherwise could delay development and introduce costly post-deployment defects.
  • Avionics platform support. eXtremeDB 6.0 is compatible with both Wind River Systems’ specialized VxWorks 653 and VxWorks CERT platforms for avionics.
  • Reliability/recoverability via ACID (Atomic, Consistent, Isolated and Durable) database transactions and transaction logging.
  • An ultra-short execution path (code size is approximately 150K) to minimize appetite for CPU cycles and reduce manufacturing costs by enabling use of less costly processors.
