PNI Sensor Advances Motion Processing at 2014 CES

LAS VEGAS – January 6, 2014 — PNI Sensor (PNI), a leader in magnetic sensing and sensor fusion technologies, today announced the industry’s first Motion & Measurement (M&M) modules, an integrated platform for accurate motion and heading measurement in wearable fitness devices, smartphones, video game consoles and TV remote controls.

The new M&M platform integrates PNI’s ultra-low power SENtral™ motion co-processor with third-party accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers—as well as with PNI’s own geomagnetic sensors—to achieve the highest-accuracy motion tracking and heading measurement in a low-power system-on-board. PNI’s top-of-the-line sensor fusion algorithms conveniently run on the SENtral and do not require any algorithm or software licenses, making it truly plug-and-play for design groups of all sizes.

“Motion-enabled applications are everywhere,” said Becky Oh, president and CEO, PNI Sensor. “We geo-tag our cell phone photos, play video games, channel surf across our TVs, and quantify our physical activity. But historically, only large design groups had the resources to achieve the highest-accuracy motion and heading data required for such applications. PNI’s M&M modules change the nature of the game, giving all developers the flexibility and performance they need for motion-based devices—without making them worry about the math!”

On the CES Show Floor

PNI will demonstrate SENtral and its new M&M module platforms from the show floor at the 2014 CES. Please visit PNI in MEMS Industry Group’s MotionTech TechZone, Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC), South Hall 2, at Booth 25736, January 7-10, 2014 during exhibition hours.

About SENtral

SENtral is a motion co-processor that enables smart continuous calibration and magnetic anomaly rejection, allowing for true accuracy in contextual awareness and indoor navigation.Carrying advanced sensor fusion algorithms on an extremely low-power IC, SENtral dramatically reduces power usage by offloading sensor management and fusion work from less efficient host CPUs onto an ultra-low power IC tailor-made for motion processing. Because it is sensor-agnostic, SENtral is compatible with third-party accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers as well as with PNI’s own family of geomagnetic sensors.

PNI CEO Explores “Wearables and Sensor Fusion”

PNI President and CEO Becky Oh will join other MEMS industry visionaries to discuss the fast-growth wearable sensor market: Wearables and MEMS Sensor FusionJanuary 8, 2015 from 3:25-4:15 p.m., during MEMS Industry Group’s half-day conference session, MEMS Sensor Fusion – Revolutionizing the Internet of Things.

‘MEMS Sensor Fusion’ will take place in Room N261, North Hall, LVCC. Registration is available online at: http://www.cesweb.org/Conference/Conference-Tracks/.
