Huanor Adopts Cypress’s EZ-USB® FX3™ Peripheral Controller For USB 3.0 Industrial Camera Development Kit

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 12, 2013, – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today announced that Beijing Huanor-Mingke Electronic Tech Center has selected Cypress’s EZ-USB® FX3™ solution for the Huanor U3CAMEN USB 3.0 industrial camera development kit. The kit provides a complete hardware and software solution to accelerate designs with a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), USB firmware, and device driver, enabling rapid development of 5-Megapixel USB 3.0 industrial cameras. The FX3 solution provides the kit with 5 Gbps USB 3.0 bandwidth, enabling streaming of high-definition images.

The Huanor U3CAMEN USB industrial camera development kit leverages the FX3 solution to support up to 15 frames per second for 5-megapixel cameras, with 24 bits of RGB raw data video imaging. The kit offers a resource-rich FPGA to implement complex image processing, offloading the CPU from the burden of large volume of image data, while achieving superior image quality. FX3 is the industry’s only programmable USB 3.0 peripheral controller, adding to the design flexibility of the kit to help speed time to market. More information on Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 controller is available at www.cypress.com/fx3.

“The demand for HD image capture is driving increases in image sensor resolution and frame rates, leaving bandwidth as the current bottleneck for industrial cameras,” said Li Jinzhi, Deputy General Manager at Huanor. “USB 3.0 offers a promising solution that is high-bandwidth, cost-efficient, and easy to integrate. Our new U3CAMEN camera development kit combines Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 solution with a high-performance CMOS image sensor and an FPGA to provide a complete development platform for USB 3.0 industrial camera designs.”

“FX3 is quickly becoming the de facto solution to enable USB 3.0 connectivity in industrial and machine vision cameras,” said Mark Fu, Senior Director of Cypress’s SuperSpeed USB Business Unit. “We are pleased to work with Huanor to bring a complete USB 3.0 camera reference design that is easily accessible for industrial camera customers.”

Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 uses an on-chip ARM9 CPU core with 512 KB RAM to deliver 200 MIPS of computational power. FX3 is equipped with a fully configurable General Programmable Interface (GPIF™ II), which can be programmed in 8-, 16-, and 32-bit configurations. GPIF II enables FX3 to communicate directly to any processor, FPGAs, and image sensors and provides a data transfer rate at up to 400 Megabytes per second.  Additionally, FX3 provides interfaces to connect to serial peripherals such as SPI, UART, I2C and I2S. In short, FX3 provides highly flexible and integrated features that enable developers to add USB 3.0 connectivity to any system.

EZ-USB FX3 is in volume production now, available in a small 121-ball BGA with dimensions of 10 mm x 10 mm x 1.2 mm with a 0.8-mm pitch.
