Energy Micro Cortex-M4 MCU achieves performance benefits using TSMC’s latest low leakage process

Oslo, Norway, 15 May 2013 – Energy Micro, the energy friendly microcontroller and radio company announced today that it has been working closely with TSMC to verify the benefits of using the TSMC eLL (Extreme Low Leakage) process to fabricate its next generation of energy efficient Cortex-M microcontrollers. By aligning closely with TSMC, Energy Micro has benefitted from early access to the process technology to further enhance its MCU portfolio.

TSMC’s eLL process is the latest refinement of its embedded Flash (EmbFlash) technology with even lower power consumption than its previous generation solution; 50-70% improved stand-by current and 30% better active current.

Andreas Koller, VP of Worldwide Sales at Energy Micro said, “Energy efficiency has set the EFM32 MCU products apart from our competitors. With a natural move to 32-bit DSP CPU cores like the ARM Cortex-M4 with FPU, our energy efficient Gecko Technology benefits from TSMC’s latest process enhancements with the best low energy performance.”

Maria Marced, President of TSMC Europe, said, “Energy Micro is delivering outstanding energy efficiency and performance with its low energy MCUs. The use of TSMC’s extreme Low Leakage Embedded Flash process has resulted in significant power savings in Energy Micro’s products and further strengthened Energy Micro’s competitive position.”
