AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced today that its AMD Embedded G-Series processor platform now supports Windows® Embedded CE 6.0, Microsoft’s real-time operating system for a wide range of small-footprint consumer and enterprise devices. In March, AMD announced AMD Embedded G-Series processor platform support for Windows Embedded Compact 7, the next evolution of the Windows® Embedded CE real-time operating system. Today’s announcement addresses the needs of developers who are committed to solutions using Windows CE 6.0.
With AMD’s G-Series support, CE 6.0 enables board, module and system OEMs to apply AMD Embedded G-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) to a wide range of power-sensitive devices and real-time industrial automation applications – such as those requiring high performance, integrated graphics processing with minimal size, power and cooling constraints. Typical uses include handheld terminals for warehouse applications, ruggedized PDA devices for applications including rental car check-in, GPS devices and other consumer electronic and medical devices. With tools like Platform Builder, a Visual Studio 2005 plug in, CE 6.0 offers G-series platform developers the ability to build applications in a familiar environment through an integrated development environment (IDE) that enables them to build applications in a familiar environment.

Combining a low-power CPU with a discrete-level GPU onto a single die with a high-speed bus architecture and shared, low-latency memory model, AMD Embedded G-Series APUs offer high performance processing and multi-media content delivery for embedded designs. Delivering performance up to 1.65 GHz, supporting thermal design power (TDP) profiles from 4.5W to 18W, and with typical power consumption below 6W, AMD Embedded G-Series APUs provide performance-per-watt ratios that far exceed the capabilities of conventional chipsets, without compromising board space or cost.
Available boards and modules utilizing AMD Embedded G-Series APUs and CE 6.0 include CAPA111 from Axiomtek, KTA55/pITX from Kontron, and MIO-5270 from Advantech.
