AVX Announces High Current, Low Profile FPC Connector With Unrivaled Physical & Performance Specifications

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (November 14, 2016) – AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer and supplier of passive components and interconnect solutions, and the only authorized supplier of Kyocera Electronic Devices to the Americas and Europe, announces the high current, low profile 6808 Series right-angle FPC connector from Kyocera Connector Products. Suitable for both FPC connections and battery connections in applications including: batteries, power supplies, robotics, and small electronic motors, the 6808 Series is the industry’s first — and currently only — ultraminiature (0.5mm pitch), flip-locking FPC connector with a 4A power rating and dual-sided, top and bottom contacts that effectively mitigate FPC insertion and PCB layout restrictions. Featuring six power pins capable of transferring up to 4A and one signal pin capable of transferring 0.5A, 6808 Series FPC connectors can also be employed as seven-pin signal connectors, and come combined with a notched FPC to prevent contact misalignment and enhance resistance against shock and vibration.

“Our high current, low profile 6808 Series FPC connectors deliver unrivaled physical and performance specifications, and are as robust as they are versatile, providing electronics design engineers with high contact reliability, impressive resistance to tensile forces, and maximum layout and employment flexibility for both FPC and battery connections,” said Nick Bogovich, product marketing and systems manager for Kyocera Connector Products at AVX.

Featuring a zero insertion force (ZIF) flip-lock design with right angle cable connections, copper alloy contacts, and heat-resistant plastic insulators, 6808 Series connectors measure a slight 7.3mm x 5.3mm x 1.5 mm (L x W x H), and exhibit a minimum FPC retention force of 15 Newtons. Rated for 50VDC, operating temperatures spanning -40°C to +85°C, and 10 mating cycles, the series is also RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and supplied in reels of 5,000 parts per reel. Current lead-time for the series is 12 weeks.
