Avnet Expands PicoZed Ecosystem with Updated FMC Carrier Card Kit

PHOENIX—May 17, 2016—Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), a leading global technology distributor, released the PicoZed™ FMC Carrier Card V2, a next-generation platform with improved FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) interface, transceiver signal integrity and clocking, all at a more cost-competitive price point. Engineers can view a video previewing the kit’s key features here.

The new FMC carrier card kit speeds prototyping and development of Xilinx® Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC systems based on the PicoZed family of System-on-Modules (SOMs). The carrier enables many key interfaces for the on-module Gigabit Ethernet PHY and USB PHY, including a bootable microSD card slot and USB-UART port. A majority of the PicoZed’s programmable logic I/O are made available through a Low-Pin Count (LPC) FMC connector, which accommodates many available add-on cards including industrial Ethernet, video/camera I/O, motor control, software-defined radio or quad gigabit Ethernet.

In addition, the carrier features an HDMI output port, real-time clock, high-performance clock synthesizer, two MAC ID EEPROMs and several Digilent-compatible Pmod™ ports. The four serial transceivers on the PicoZed 7015 and 7030 SOMs are allocated to a x1 PCIe Gen2 card edge interface, the FMC connector, an SFP+ interface and general purpose SMA connectors.

The PicoZed FMC Carrier Card V2 Kit ships with a microSD card pre-loaded with a custom-configured Pulsar™ Linux operating system from Wind River®, a global leader in delivering software for the Internet of Things (IoT). This allows designers to begin application development right out of the box.

“The PicoZed SOM enables embedded systems designers to more quickly and cost-effectively leverage the industry-leading integration, performance, power and security of the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs,” said Bryan Fletcher, technical marketing director, Avnet. “Now, the new PicoZed FMC Carrier Card V2 will further accelerate Zynq product development by providing a platform for immediate prototyping and a reference PCB design to use as a starting point for a custom carrier.”

The PicoZed FMC Carrier Card V2 Kit includes:

  • PicoZed FMC Carrier Card V2
  • 8 GB microSD card preloaded with Wind River Pulsar™ Linux (with SD adapter card)
  • USB A-to-microB cable
  • ATX-to-6P Mini-Fit adapter
  • PCIe bracket
  • Mounting hardware for SOM
  • 12V AC/DC international supply
  • Quick Start instructions for the board and Pulsar

The new PicoZed FMC Carrier Card V2 Kit, priced at $349, is currently available for ordering. Please visit http://picozed.org for more information.
