Exar Introduces Industry Leading Low Power Rail-to-Rail Amplifiers

Fremont, CA, September 4th, 2014 – Exar Corporation (NYSE: EXAR), a leading supplier of high-performance integrated circuits and system solutions, today announced two industry-leading operational amplifier families, the XR1008/XR2008 and XR1009/XR2009.  The XR1008/XR2008 are single/dual amplifiers offering 75MHz bandwidth while consuming only 505µA supply current and the lower power XR1009/XR2009 single/dual amplifiers provide 35MHz at only 208µA supply current.  When compared to other competing products on the market today, the XR1008/XR2008 devices offer 6 times the bandwidth and the even lower power XR1009/XR2009 devices offer 3 times the bandwidth.

The XR1008/XR2008 single/dual amplifiers target industrial applications such as smart meters, ultrasonic heat meters and other applications requiring high speed and low power.  The XR1009/XR2009 are single/dual amplifiers with an ultra-low 200µA supply current for portable instrumentation and applications such as interactive whiteboards.

Offering the best available combination of power consumption and performance, the XR1008/XR2008 devices help system designers meet their ever-constricting power budget without sacrificing performance. All four devices support inputs that extend 300mV beyond the negative supply voltage and provide rail-to-rail outputs. Slew rates and input voltage noise are specified at 50V/µs and 12nV/?Hz for the XR1008/XR2008 and 27V/µs and 21nV/?Hz for the XR1009/XR2009.

“Designers looking for low power amplifiers do not need to sacrifice speed or performance,” said Dale Wedel, vice president of High Performance Analog products at Exar.  “These rail-to-rail amplifiers minimize power dissipation in high channel count applications and offer superior electrical characteristic performance, helping our customers design lower power next generation platforms.”

Product Availability and Pricing

The XR1008, XR2008, XR1009 and XR2009 are available now in RoHS compliant, green/halogen free TSOT-5, MSOP-8 and SOIC-8 packages. 1K quantity pricing ranges from $0.51 to $0.82.
