Semtech LoRa™ Platform Selected by KERLINK For First Internet of Things Long-Range Gateway

CAMARILLO, Calif., April 08, 2014 — Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, todayannounced its LoRa™ long-range RF technology, has been chosen by KERLINK M2M Technologies, a Rennes, France-based supplier of machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, for its new Long Range IoT Station.

KERLINK selected the Semtech LoRa technology for the Long Range IoT Station, which allows companies to build their own Internet of Things (IoT) network to monitor equipment or sensors. The Long Range IoT Station is designed to be used to create a private IoT and provide bi-directional communication with thousands of sensors, meters and other connected devices located up to tens of kilometers away.

The IoT Station greatly simplifies the implementation of the network and the operation of the end-points and is compatible with existing protocols including WMBUS, 6lowPan and others. With the built-in LoRa technology, repeaters are eliminated, which reduces infrastructure costs compared to competing solutions.

Semtech’s LoRa™ technology enables 10-times greater range than competing systems and the capacity to connect tens of thousands of nodes to a single gateway in a star architecture while maintaining low power consumption for multi-year battery operation.  This combination of benefits enables the next wave of IoT applications for smart cities, smart environments and other M2M applications.

“The goal for our new Long Range IoT Station was to provide a smart connectivity solution that was so easy and capable that it could be deployed by companies without distracting them from their core business,” said William Gouesbet, KERLINK CEO. “The LoRa technology is a brilliant addition to the product because it gave us the range and capacity we needed to meet our design objectives.”

“Since launching the LoRa product line, Semtech has become the leader in M2M RF technology because we’ve got the right combination of long-range transmission, low power consumption and high capacity,” said Alain Dantec, Semtech Senior VP and GM of Wireless, Sensing and Timing Product Group. “KERLINK has an innovative take on the market and we’re glad to be a key vendor for their new system.”

About KERLINK
