Curtiss-Wright Controls Introduces New 4-Slot OpenVPX™ Compact Rugged 3U Multi-Platform Mission Computer Sub-System

SAN DIEGO, CA — January 11, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, VXS and CompactPCI products for the rugged deployed defense and aerospace market, has introduced a new compact, natural convection-cooled rugged 4-slot OpenVPX™ system, the MPMC-9341 Multi-Platform Mission Computer. Developed by CWCEC’s Embedded Systems group in San Diego, CA, the MPMC-9341 features a built-in power supply and four (4) 3U OpenVPX system slots that can be configured to accommodate up to four single board computers (SBCs) for high performance multi-processing applications, or as a mix of SBCs and I/O modules to handle specific program I/O requirements.

The MPMC-9341 uses advanced packaging techniques to provide the processing power of up to 4 SBCs in a rugged enclosure that measures a compact 600 cubic inches yet is able to operate and survive external air temperatures of 55°C using only natural convection.  This enables system designers to implement and deploy a highly capable processing system without the need for fans, coldplates, vehicle-supplied air, liquid or other demands from the vehicle. This rugged Packaged COTS (PCOTS) system can be readily configured to meet the needs of the full range of military or aerospace requirements, from benign laboratory to harsh deployed ground vehicle environments, simplifying and speeding the development and deployment of critical applications.

The MPMC-9341 can greatly reduce up-front development costs. As a PCOTS system it delivers economies of scale in production that reduce recurring costs while meeting the I/O, performance and environmental requirements of unique, demanding military programs. It features a rugged enclosure designed to the meet military specifications including MIL-STD-810 for environmental conditions, MIL-STD-461 for EMI, and MIL-STD-704 for power. This rugged computing system is designed to fill multiple roles in air and land vehicles.

“Our customers are looking for performance and flexibility in VPX system designs,” said Lynn Bamford, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls

Embedded Computing. “Our packaged COTS rugged systems deliver tried and tested Curtiss-Wright COTS advanced single board computers and I/O options in field-ready and affordable configurations that lower risk for the most demanding environments and applications.”

GrammaTech Releases Latest Version of CodeSonar

SAN JOSE, CA–January 12, 2011–GrammaTech, Inc., a leading manufacturer of source-code-analysis tools, today announced the availability of the latest version of CodeSonar. CodeSonar’s compile-time analysis identifies quality and security problems, helping companies to avoid failures in the field. CodeSonar 3.6 provides a radically improved graphical user interface (GUI) to streamline developer interaction and boost productivity. In addition, CodeSonar 3.6’s analysis engine is more efficient. For large code bases, the analysis time has been reduced by as much as a third.

According to Paul Anderson, GrammaTech’s vice president of Engineering, “CodeSonar’s unique strength is its ability to identify far more program-crashing defects and security vulnerabilities than competing static-analysis tools. Another advantage is CodeSonar’s new GUI that enables developers to quickly digest key information, understand and identify the most important issues, and prioritize fixes.”

About CodeSonar

CodeSonar is a sophisticated static-analysis tool that performs a whole-program, interprocedural analysis on code and identifies complex programming bugs that can result in system crashes, memory corruption and other serious problems. Like a compiler, CodeSonar does a build of the code. However, instead of creating object code, CodeSonar creates an abstract model of the program, capturing information about the program’s control flow and the relationships between data. The program model is executed symbolically by CodeSonar’s analysis engine. Automated reasoning about feasible paths and program variables is used to identify tricky defects, including defects that result from complex interactions among procedures.

CodeSonar is backed by years of research and is the most powerful source-code-analysis tool available. It is distinguished by its ability to find more serious defects than any other tool on the market. For this reason, it has been adopted by leading organizations developing medical devices, spacecraft, industrial and automotive control systems, electronics, and similar applications. CodeSonar runs on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Mac OSX operating systems and supports most compilers.

Price and Availability

CodeSonar 3.6 has the same pricing as CodeSonar 3.5, which is available today starting at $18,000 USD for small projects. Licenses for larger projects are based on the size of the project. Interested parties can request a free trial of CodeSonar.
