Septentrio mosaic™ GPS/GNSS now also available in MIKROE Click board™ ecosystem

Time-to-market of systems using reliable, high-accuracy positioning is accelerated with this new add-on board, which is based on the popular mikroBUS™ standard

April 8, 2024 – mosaic-X5 compact GNSS* receiver module from Septentrio, a leader in high-precision GNSS* positioning solutions, has been integrated into a new Click board™ by MIKROE, a major provider of solutions for embedded systems development. The new board, called Mosaic Click, is compatible with the popular mikroBUS™ socket standard, enabling plug-and-play prototyping and reduced time-to-market. The mosaic-X5 receiver leverages triple-band GNSS technology to achieve cm-level RTK accuracy with a high degree of reliability, even in challenging environments. Advanced Anti-Jamming and Anti-Spoofing* technology protects the receiver form malicious or accidental radio interference. Such a high level of robustness and resilience is especially interesting for applications where safety is a concern, as well as autonomous and mission-critical applications of systems like UAVs or industrial robots.

“Our partnership with MIKROE is instrumental in expanding the mosaic ecosystem and empowering the development community with a competitive edge of highly reliable GNSS positioning. By leveraging MIKROE’s renowned form factor we are providing a familiar platform for faster evaluation and development,” commented Gustavo Lopez, Market Access Manager at Septentrio.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Septentrio, whose top-of-the-line GNSS technology meets the rising demand of modern and professional high-performance applications. This partnership underlines our commitment to providing our customers with cutting-edge solutions that drive innovation and excellence across industries,” stated Aleksandar Mitrovic, Head of Click Team & Click boards™ Product Marketing Manager at MIKROE.

The mosaic-X5 receiver tracks all available GNSS constellations including GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS and is protected by Septentrio’s renowned AIM+ anti-jamming and anti-spoofing technology. Full GNSS raw data and positioning are delivered at a high update rate of 100Hz and with low latency, critical for autonomous movement and maneuvering. The built-in web user interface and embedded NTRIP client make it easy to get started with high accuracy “out of the box”. Inspired by the mosaicBus open-source project of Septentrio, Mosaic Click is supported by an extensive mikroSDK library, which includes functions that simplify software development.

The mikroBUS™ is one of the world’s fastest-growing add-on board standards primarily used in embedded systems. It is designed into development boards of major vendors including MikroElektronika (MIKROE), the company that developed the mikroBUS™ standard.

* Global Navigation Satellite System including the American GPS, European Galileo, Russian GLONASS, Chinese BeiDou, Japan’s QZSS and India’s NavIC. These satellite constellations broadcast positioning information to receivers which use it to calculate their absolute position.

** Jamming is a form of radio interference which occurs when GPS frequency is overpowered by other radio waves, resulting in accuracy degradation or event total loss of position. Spoofing is a malicious form of radio interference, where misleading signals are sent into the receiver, resulting in faulty coordinates, which lead the target away from its predefined track.
