Rohde & Schwarz launches the world’s first combined test solution for NB-IoT and Bluetooth®

At MWC 2019, CommSolid (a Goodix company) will present an IoT reference design integrating its NB-IoT and Bluetooth® SOCs. The manufacturer uses the R&S CMW290 IoT radio communication testers for RF and functional testing of both transmission methods. At Embedded World 2019 in Nuremberg, which takes place in parallel to MWC in Barcelona, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the realistic measurements that make this device solution possible.

Munich, February 20, 2019 — In the demos, Rohde & Schwarz will present the CommSolid (Goodix) IoT solution in a real-world application scenario: rental bicycles in an urban environment transmitting their position and usage data via NB-IoT and querying the bicycle status at the bicycle rental station via Bluetooth LE. Both transmission methods are designed for low current consumption, long battery life and secure communications.

The R&S CMW radio communication testers are unique in allowing parallel testing of cellular and non-cellular transmissions. Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate various application tests for NB-IoT and Bluetooth based on the R&S CMW290 IoT tester. This tester supports all current mobile communication standards plus all Bluetooth RF tests, including Bluetooth LE 5.0. The R&S CMW testers are the only testers that allow developers to perform RF signaling tests for Bluetooth LE using over-the air measurements under real-world conditions. This enables users to analyze transitions between NB-IoT and Bluetooth in detail. Furthermore, CommSolid (Goodix) can coordinate and optimize its integrated wireless functions to identify and eliminate any interference.

The bicycle rental scenario is only one of countless potential applications for the CommSolid (Goodix) IoT solution. It offers the latest 3GPP features in the NB-IoT domain, including comprehensive Release 14 compliance. In addition, it supports the latest BLE 5.0 standard. The device solution is based on an uncompromising security architecture for both standards, is highly integrated, and consumes very little power.

Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate the combined Bluetooth and NB-IoT tests with the R&S CMW290 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 25 to 28, 2019, at booth #6C40 in hall 6. In parallel, the solutions will also be on display at Embedded World in Nuremberg from February 26 to 28 at booth #4-218 in hall 4. Detailed information is available at www.rohde-schwarz.com/mwc.
