Green Hills Software Announces Comprehensive Software Foundation for Safety- and Security-Critical Applications on the AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 Platform

• Green Hills and AMD collaborate on AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 devices, targeting a wide range of sensor data-driven embedded applications in automotive, aerospace, healthcare and robotics.

• The combined solution targets ASIL D / SIL 3 requirements and reduces customer software development costs and accelerates time-to-production.

Green Hills Software, the worldwide leader in embedded safety and security, today announced its collaboration with AMD to provide a combined hardware and software solution for developing applications based on the AMD Versal™ AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive system-on-chip (SoC). Green Hills solutions feature the safety-certified INTEGRITY® and µ-velOSity™ real-time operating systems (RTOS), the µ-visor® and INTEGRITY Multivisor® hypervisors, industry-leading Green Hills compilers and the advanced MULTI® debugger with system visualization tools.

The comprehensive Green Hills offering of RTOSes, hypervisors and advanced development tools is unique because it is a single source solution for both Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 compute core complexes – Arm® Cortex®-A78AE, Cortex-R52 – and is focused on meeting critical production requirements in automotive, aerospace and robotics applications. The solution enables manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to safely consolidate mixed-criticality ECU functions while reducing system complexity, lowering development cost and time-to-production.

Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 devices are single-chip solutions built on a hardware foundation of enhanced safety (ASIL D / SIL 3) performing three processing phases: FPGA Preprocessing, AI Inference, and Postprocessing. Postprocessing is powered by Arm CPUs and enabled by Green Hills for complex decision-making and control for safety-critical applications.

“Customers developing embedded applications need a hardware and software foundation they can rely on,” said Simon George, Director of Embedded Systems, Physical AI, at AMD. “The combination of AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 devices and Green Hills Software’s proven RTOS, hypervisor, and toolchain allows developers to more efficiently build and deploy intelligent, safety-critical applications for automotive, aerospace, healthcare, and robotics.”

“The increasing complexity of safety- and security-critical embedded systems demands a tightly integrated, proven software foundation that developers can trust,” said Dan Mender, Vice President of Business Development at Green Hills Software. “Our collaboration with AMD on the Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 platform brings together industry-leading, production-ready safety-certified software solutions with advanced adaptive SoC technology. This enables our customers to consolidate mixed-criticality workloads and reduce system complexity while accelerating the deployment of intelligent, safety-critical applications across a wide range of markets.”

Highlights of the comprehensive Green Hills offering for the AMD Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive SoCs are:

• INTEGRITY RTOS (ASIL D, SIL 3/4) for Cortex-A78AE cores, safely and securely separating the execution of concurrent workloads of mixed levels of criticality. INTEGRITY can also safely host Linux or Android environments with Multivisor virtualization services.

• µ-velOSity RTOS (ASIL D, SIL 3/4) for Cortex-R52 real-time cores.

• µ-visor hypervisor can safely host and run a wide range of microcontroller operating systems such as AUTOSAR Classic, FreeRTOS, Zephyr and µ-velOSity on the Cortex-R52 core complex.

• MULTI IDE (ASIL D, SIL3/4) for Cortex-A78AE and Cortex-R52 is the next-generation multicore, OS-agnostic integrated development environment that enables developers to quickly find and fix bugs. It also features static source code analysis DoubleCheck™, advanced back-in-time TimeMachine® debugging and the intuitive History® graphical system viewer.

• Green Hills Optimizing Compilers and C/C++ run-time libraries (ASIL D, SIL 3/4).

• Green Hills Platform for CRA helps manufacturers comply with the European Union’s Cybersecurity Resilience Act.

• Green Hills “Trusted Advisor” design services enabling designers to meet their critical safety, security and business requirements with system-level solutions.
