Rohde & Schwarz to present T&M solutions for the latest technologies at electronica 2016

Munich, October 21, 2016 — The electronica trade fair will be held from November 8 to 11, 2016, in Munich. Rohde & Schwarz will present its portfolio of T&M solutions tailored to the requirements of today’s most significant technology trends (hall A1, booth 307).

Solutions for 5G and wireless gigabit

Rohde & Schwarz will present the first over-the-air (OTA) power measurement solution for 5G and wireless gigabit components. These wideband communications technologies require the use of phased array antennas at access points, base stations and in wireless devices. These antennas use beamforming to control the direction of radiation of the transmit antenna so as to maximize the power level at the receiver. The new R&S NRPM OTA power measurement solution from Rohde & Schwarz allows users in development and production to calibrate the transmit antenna’s output power and test its beamforming function using a simple test setup. The R&S NRPM operates in the frequency range from 27.5 GHz to 75 GHz. A compact 19″ EMC test box (R&S TS7124) additionally allows shielded RF measurements.

In addition, Rohde & Schwarz assists developers around the world in evaluating their 5G implementations. The company’s 5G test setup at electronica will consist of an R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and an R&S FSW85 signal and spectrum analyzer. This combination offers the flexibility and T&M functionality required to test solutions for candidate waveforms and new frequency bands, for example. Using the R&S TS-5GCS channel sounding software, the two instruments can also characterize the new wireless channels in order to determine their optimal use.

Automotive solutions

Users in the automotive sector will also benefit from the Rohde & Schwarz expertise in the field of radar testing. The R&S FSW85 signal and spectrum analyzer analyzes FMCW chirp signals up to 2 GHz bandwidth and covers the 24 GHz and 79 GHz frequency bands allocated to automotive radars with a single device, requiring no additional, external frequency converters. On display at the booth will also be the ARTS9510 automotive radar target simulator, the R&S TS7124 shielded RF test box and the R&S NRP8S power sensor, which provide an optimized measurement solution for production tests on automotive radar sensors.

The company’s R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester offers car manufacturers a solution for performing RF and audio tests on infotainment systems, for example. The test platform is suitable for use in development, production and service and can be used to simulate Bluetooth, WLAN, LTE-A, WCDMA or GSM networks, for example. It can also test the effects of RF signals on communications modules located adjacent to each other.

Testing embedded designs

Many highly integrated components are developed for Internet of Things (IoT) applications and are equipped with an air interface. The R&S CMW wideband radio communication tester und the R&S RT-ZVC04 probe can be used to test and monitor, for example, the data throughput and volume of LTE transmissions at these interfaces, and to measure and monitor the current drain of these components with high resolution. The R&S CMW290 is specifically designed for testing radio transmissions involving IoT components and supports diverse mobile radio and WLAN standards as well as Bluetooth.

For measurements on highly integrated embedded designs, Rohde & Schwarz will present its R&S RTO2000 digital oscilloscope, which is designed for multi-domain applications. The oscilloscope allows developers to analyze the interaction between the various functional units of these complex designs. The R&S RTO2000 displays the correlations between time, frequency, protocol and logic analysis results like no other oscilloscope can.

The R&S RTO2000 and R&S RTE digital oscilloscopes can now be used in combination with the new, extremely low-noise R&S RT-ZP1X probe to carry out power measurements down to the millivolt range. This functionality is essential for measuring power integrity on embedded designs as used, for example, in IoT applications. Power integrity can be quickly measured and analyzed down to the smallest detail using a Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscope and the new probe.

Also on display is the R&S Scope Rider, the first handheld oscilloscope with the functionality and touch and feel of a state-of-the-art lab scope. Its rugged design makes it perfect for mobile installation and maintenance work. The instrument features isolated input and communications interfaces. It meets CAT IV standards and can carry out measurements on low-voltage installation sources up to 600 V.

State-of-the-art EMI T&M solutions

The R&S ESW EMI test receiver from Rohde & Schwarz is designed for applications in manufacturers’ EMI labs and in test houses. It can carry out fast prequalification tests, in particular certification tests, on modules, components, devices, systems and technical facilities in line with all relevant commercial and military standards. The instrument’s ultrafast FFT-based time domain scan delivers standard-compliant measurements in just seconds; these measurements can even be run with two CISPR detectors in parallel. The R&S ESW offers an exceptionally wide dynamic range and outstanding level accuracy. It can be used for EMI measurements starting from 2 Hz, such as those required in the A&D and automotive sectors.

Signal integrity test solutions

The R&S ZNBT20 from Rohde & Schwarz is the first true multiport network analyzer to offer up to 16 integrated test ports for operation up to 20 GHz. The high number of test ports makes it possible to perform signal integrity tests for transmission standards with high data rates, for example simultaneous tests on multicore wiring systems. In combination with the R&S ZNBT-K20 option for extended time domain analysis, the R&S ZNBT can display eye diagrams, rise time and skew.

Rohde & Schwarz will present its product portfolio at electronica 2016 in hall A1, booth 307. A press day will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Journalists are invited to come and find out more about the products on display.
