DSP Algorithm Demos That Work With YOUR Hardware

Kane Computing are pleased to announce that a number of real-time demonstrations of Voice Quality Enhancement software libraries from DSP Soundware are now available running on PC or Texas Instruments processors, including Acoustic Echo Canceller and Noise Reduction.

DSP Soundware’s new paradigm is to develop real-time demonstrations of their voice quality enhancement DSP software, running on either low-cost development boards or on Windows PCs, and connect them directly to user’s hardware using simple analog interfaces.

Using their new demos:

  1. Developers do not have to wait for prototype hardware.  (Maybe just the speaker and microphone.)
  2. Developers do not have to wait for application software to be working.
  3. Developers do not have to integrate the DSP software into the application software.

Beyond that, developers can use their demos to tune parameters. The AEC demo even has an automatic tuning feature built-in. Press a button, wait a minute or two, get results

Three new demonstrations of this type are currently available:

  • Acoustic Echo Canceller on PC/Windows:
  • Noise Reduction on PC/Windows:
  • Noise Reduction on TI L138/C6748 LCDK:

Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC): Acoustic Echo Canceller (AEC) removes acoustic echo in high-end hands-free voice communication equipment and computer/handheld/tablet applications. Their Acoustic Echo Canceller defeats the two worst enemies to speech quality in hands-free communication: echo and speech cut off. Anybody who has experienced echo while speaking on the phone knows how difficult it is to speak when hearing his or her own echo. Equally annoying is the situation where both parties speak and cut each other off. Cutting a conversation to half-duplex is how a low-end echo canceller gets rid of echo, causing the parties to talk in fits and spurts, often asking the other person to repeat him or herself.

Noise ReductionNoise Reduction is a powerful algorithm that removes noise during times of speech as well as during speech-free intervals. Using only a single microphone, their Noise Reduction algorithm continuously monitors the signal and noise characteristics. Based upon these characteristics, the algorithm applies psychoacoustic spectral shaping to enhance speech, reduce noise, and improve intelligibility and listening comfort.

About DSP Soundware

DSP Soundware, LLC. (www.dspsoundware.com) was founded in 2014 by Scott Kurtz. Scott has been working in the DSP software field since 1983. He began his career developing HF modems for defence communication systems at RCA. He continued his career at InterDigital Communications Corporation where he was instrumental in developing voice and modem technology for a digital wireless local loop telephone system. InterDigital’s equipment was the predecessor to the technology that makes our cell phones work today. And just prior to founding DSP Soundware, Scott was a cofounder of Adaptive Digital Technologies and served as VP of Engineering there for 17 years. At Adaptive Digital, Scott built an engineering team and DSP software product line that is licensed for use in many of today’s VoIP and Voice-enabled products.
