Avnet Electronics Marketing Design Expert to Present at the Embedded Vision Summit

PHOENIX—April 18, 2013  — Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced today Technical Marketing Engineer Mario Bergeron will be a featured presenter at the April 25 Embedded Vision Summit, discussing, “Targeting Computer Vision Algorithms to Embedded Processors.”

The Embedded Vision Summit is a technical educational forum for engineers interested in incorporating visual intelligence into electronic systems and software. The summit will be held at the San Jose Convention Center, in conjunction with DESIGN West. Bergeron’s presentation begins at 12:30 p.m.

Bergeron will outline the challenges design engineers need to consider when adding computer vision to an embedded product. Using a simple OpenCV (open computer vision open source library) example running on a high-definition video stream, he will identify the challenges and bottlenecks that can be expected with standard processors. He will then explore several options that can optimize the computations and external memory accesses in order to save power and reduce cost.

“Computer vision toolboxes such as OpenCV are continually evolving and making computer vision available to the masses,” said Bergeron. “At the same time, manufacturers are innovating with new hardware architectures that are optimized for embedded vision. There is an incredible opportunity for our customers to innovate and differentiate themselves by adding vision to their products.” In his role at Avnet, Bergeron specializes in video, image and digital signal processing. He began his career as an ASIC designer, and has since expanded his design experience to include more than a decade of work in DSP- and FPGA-based design activities.

Summit attendees should stop by Room 230A to see how Avnet has created real-world applications for two of its latest development boards. Avnet technical experts will be demonstrating:

  • Analog Devices Blackfin® Embedded Vision Starter Kit: – Finding Objects in Live Video. This demonstration showcases the BF609’s Vision Pipelined Processor (VPP) in a vision application which counts the dots on dice in real time.
  • Xilinx® Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoC: – Your Programmable SoC Vision Platform. The demonstration showcases OpenCV functions accelerated for a 1080P60 camera on ZedBoard™.

Traditional verification methods are failing today's complex IC designs, which require a proactive, early-stage analysis approach. A shift-left methodology addresses IP block integration challenges and the limitations of traditional simulation and ERC tools. Insight Analyzer detects hard-to-find leakage issues across power domains, enabling early analysis without full simulation. Identify inefficiencies earlier to reduce rework, improve reliability, and enhance power performance.
