Leaders in Mobile Security and Virtualization to deliver High Assurance Platform for Secure Mobile Computing in the Workplace

Sterling, VA and Chicago – May 24, 2012 – Open Kernel Labs, the leader in mobile virtualization software for mobile and connected devices, and Fixmo, the mobile risk management (MRM) company, today unveiled a strategic partnership to deliver the first end-to-end Defense-Grade Mobile Platform for organizations that demand the highest levels of integrity assurance, data security and policy compliance. Built on the OK Labs High Assurance Framework and Fixmo MRM platform, the jointly developed solution provides a complete virtualized operating environment for mobile devices with fully integrated services for policy management, device integrity, application containment, and information assurance.

The High Assurance Framework (HAF), built on Open Kernel Lab’s OKL4 Microvisor, is the foundation to any true high assurance platform due its ability to fully isolate any individual element on the connected device – whether it be the OS, application, or drivers – while providing a control mechanism for policy and capability assignment. The new defense-grade mobile platform offering is built on HAF and the OKL4 Microvisor with fully integrated services for the following mobilesecurity and risk management solutions:

  • Fixmo Sentinel device integrity, tamper detection and compliance monitoring;
  • Fixmo SafeZone secure workspace and enterprise server for secure and managedcorporate email, documents, browsing and apps with FIPS 140-2 validated AES 256-bit encryption;
  • Fixmo SafeGuard software development kit (SDK) for securing mobile apps to bedeployed into the Fixmo SafeZone secure workspace;
  • Enterprise App Store for distribution of commercial and customapplications to managed mobile devices within an organization’s IT environment.

The fully integrated offering will be available for device manufacturers (OEMs), wireless operators, systems integrators, government agencies, and enterprises for deployment onto smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices. The companies have also announced that a preview version of the new platform will be made available to government and defense agencies as part of a Co-operative Research and Development Agreement with the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).

“This partnership brings together Defense-Grade mobile security and device integrity with the control, flexibility, and assurance of virtualized environments,” said Rick Segal, CEO with Fixmo. “With our partners at OK Labs, we are committed to helping our customers in the public and private sector balance a productive mobile workforce with demands for the highest levels of integrity assurance and policy compliance.”

“High assurance and granular control with regard to data protection and cyber security have become paramount forgovernment agencies and enterprises in regulated industries,” said Steve Subar, Founder and CEO, OK Labs. “Together with Fixmo, we’re delivering exactly what our customers have requested – the ability to extend the capabilities of virtualized environments with the assurance of end-to-end data security, system integrity and controlled access to behind-the-firewall applications.”

Enabling Secure and Controlled BYOD

In addition to supporting IT deployments of corporate-owned mobile devices, the new platform also supports bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environments by offering the right balance between corporate control and flexibility for the end-user. Through the OKL4 Microvisor and the Fixmo SafeZone secure workspace, all corporate data and applications run within a contained, high assurance environment that remains under full control of IT. Organizations can enforce strong policy controls on corporate data and applications without impacting the personal side of the device.
