Conexant’s Embedded Audio Solution Chosen by VXi Corporation for USB Headset Adapter

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for imaging, audio, embedded modem, and video surveillance applications, today announced that its award-winning CX20562 speakers-on-a-chip audio solution was selected by VXi Corporation, a leading provider of best-in-class headset solutions, for a new USB headset adapter. VXi’s X200 adapter is targeted at computer-based voice communications applications that require high-quality voice and audio including Unified Communications (UC), VoIP telephony, and speech recognition. The adapter is available now from VXi’s global network of distributors and resellers.

“VXi is well-known for developing high-quality telecommunications and speech recognition solutions, and we are pleased they chose our innovative audio solutions for their new X200 USB headset adapter,” said Phil Pompa, senior vice president of product marketing for Conexant. “We will continue to apply our extensive expertise in digital signal processing algorithms to further improve sound clarity in audio and voice applications.”

VXi’s new X200 USB adapter features Conexant’s proprietary noise-reduction and wideband acoustic echo-cancellation technologies, which dramatically improve voice and audio quality.

“Clear, natural sounding conversations are critical for businesses using IP-based voice communications to improve productivity and the end-user audio experience,” said Michael Ferguson, president and CEO for VXi. “Conexant’s advanced audio solutions deliver the performance required for these applications, which is why we chose their innovative technology for our new X200 USB adapter.”

About Conexant’s Audio Solution

The CX20562 integrates key speaker technology and processing functionality into a single device, and is targeted at products that support high-definition audio and voice applications. The device is USB Audio Class Compliant and supports basic audio interfaces including auxiliary input, headphone jack, internal microphone input, digital/analog volume control, speaker mute, and microphone mute. Technical innovations include:

  • Noise Reduction: Ambient noise reduction filters for microphone capturing streams.
  • Wideband Echo-cancellation: An advanced wideband acoustic echo-cancellation digital signal processor reduces speaker-to-microphone echo and captures a broader range of voice signals, resulting in more natural sounding speech.
  • Digital EQ and Peak Limiter: Improves audio fidelity and protects hearing by compensating frequency response of the transducers.
  • Digital Side Tone: Adjustable voice feedback to more closely replicate the sound effects of in-person conversations during VoIP calls.

About VXi’s X200 USB Adapter

VXi’s X200 USB adapter allows users to connect to their existing installed base of VXi, Plantronics®, or GN Netcom® headsets when migrating to softphone applications. The VXi X200 USB adapter is optimized for UC applications and incorporates in-line mute and volume controls for quick and easy call adjustments with a single touch, wideband audio for rich, natural sounding conversations, a small footprint, and a lightweight coil cord design that allows end users to switch easily between a laptop and a desktop computer. The X200 also offers advanced features including echo-cancellation and digital signal processing, which are essential attributes in eliminating some of the most persistent issues that can affect voice quality when using VoIP. One-touch answer/end call capabilities greatly improve user performance.
