Tabula Selects Freescale ColdFire CPU for ABAX™ 3-D Programmable Logic Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire/ — Tabula, Inc., a privately held fabless semiconductor company that has developed a new category of 3-D Programmable Logic Devices (3PLDs), today announced the selection of the Freescale ColdFire® V1 32-bit CPU core from IPextreme® for the recently announced ABAX 3PLD product family. The ColdFire CPU provides ABAX 3PLD developers a vast ecosystem of development tools and design resources and is particularly well suited for Tabula’s target applications including communications infrastructure, industrial, medical, test, and military/aerospace. In addition to ColdFire, Tabula also announced support for high-performance DDR3/2 Memory Controller Cores and PCI Express Cores from Northwest Logic as well as Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet MACs from MorethanIP. ABAX 3PLD developers now have access to proven CPU, high speed connectivity, and memory controller IP that will help them get to market quickly and capitalize on ABAX’s ability to deliver unprecedented capabilities at volume price points. Tabula is currently building on this initial set of IP and looks forward to rolling out additional proven IP cores for ABAX developers.

“Programmable logic developers need access to the right mix of IP in order to design winning solutions for their target markets, ” said Alain Bismuth, Vice President of Marketing for Tabula, Inc. “Our collaboration with IPextreme, MorethanIP and Northwest Logic gives our customers access to a well-established 32-bit processing solution with a rich set of development tools and the ability to easily incorporate memory controllers and industry-standard high speed interfaces into their ABAX-based designs.”

“Tabula’s ABAX family of 3PLDs brings exciting new performance innovations to the programmable logic market,” said Warren Savage, CEO of IPextreme, Inc. “We look forward to seeing what developers can do when they combine ABAX 3PLDs with our 32-bit ColdFire processor core and its world-class development tools.”

Brian Daellenbach, president of Northwest Logic said, “Our Memory Controller and PCI Express IP Cores are engineered to provide high-performance and easy integration into a designer’s chosen PLD platform. We are working closely with Tabula to provide their customers fully verified DDR3/2 and PCI Express solutions for the ABAX platform.”

“As a leader in advanced communications IP, we have partnered with many of the biggest names in ASIC and programmable logic,” said Francois Balay, CEO of MorethanIP. “Tabula’s ABAX 3PLDs is poised to revolutionize the use of programmable logic and we’re happy to see our IP technologies helping them pursue that goal.”

About Tabula’s ABAX 3-D Programmable Logic Devices

The ABAX family of 3PLDs uses Tabula’s revolutionary Spacetime hardware architecture that dynamically reconfigures logic, memory, and interconnects at multi-GHz rates and the Spacetime compiler that manages this ultra-rapid reconfiguration transparently. Deployed on TSMC’s 40 nm process, Tabula’s ABAX devices integrate 5.5Mbytes of 1.6GHz user memory in addition to a rich mixture of fully configurable, high-performance I/Os, including 920 general-purpose parallel I/Os, and 48 6.5Gbps serial transceivers. To improve time to market and productivity, the ABAX family’s design flow closely resembles those for FPGAs and ASICs, using synthesis, placement, and routing to compile designs from RTL into silicon. In addition, the ABAX family supports a variety of proven CPU, high speed connectivity and memory controller IP including the Freescale ColdFire V1 32-bit CPU, DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers, PCI Express, and Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet cores.
