Elektrobit (EB) announces EB GUIDE 6, new version of software for building sophisticated, customized automotive HMIs

LUDWIGSBURG, GERMANY (Congress on Advances in Automotive Electronics, Booth 30), June 23, 2015 – Elektrobit (EB), a leading developer of cutting-edge, embedded technology solutions for the automotive industry, today announced EB GUIDE 6, a  software toolkit that allows automakers, Tier 1 suppliers and developers to design and develop sophisticated, customized human-machine interface (HMI) systems more easily, quickly and cost-effectively. EB GUIDE 6 is an updated version of its pioneering, HMI toolkit for the development of multimodal in-car screens with advanced graphics, plus voice-, touch screen- and gesture-based controls.

EB is announcing a new pricing and licensing model with EB GUIDE 6 which includes a free, downloadable version—EB GUIDE Studio 6—available for download at http://www.eb-guide.com starting mid-August 2015.

EB GUIDE 6 represents a complete redesign of the EB GUIDE HMI development toolchain, integrating new features such as a streamlined graphical user interface that makes it easier to use by both engineers and designers alike. EB GUIDE 6 helps reduce development time and costs by enabling existing models, animations, widgets and other assets to be reused for different projects, brands or markets, greatly simplifying the process of creating a consistent, yet easily customizable, look and feel. The software toolchain allows users to work in distributed projects with support for easy branching and merging software models, and it automatically integrates models created using previous versions of EB GUIDE software, providing an automatic migration path for assets created with EB GUIDE 5.5.

“EB GUIDE 6 is the latest version of EB’s groundbreaking automotive HMI development tool,” said Roger Lanctot, associate director, global automotive practice, Strategy Analytics. “Automakers today are under pressure to innovate and iterate – which means moving forward while re-using the best of existing solutions. EB GUIDE 6 makes it possible for them to keep pace by allowing the rapid creation of custom, branded user interfaces that can be extended across product lines, and readily modified or updated, as needed.”

EB GUIDE 6 offers developers the widest choice of user interface (UI) modes, including

Graphical with 3-D support, animations, effects and integration of HTML5 content

Touch, multi-touch (e.g., pinch, zoom, rotate) and path gesture recognition (detection of a path drawn on a surface)

Voice, with the latest speech technology

“User interfaces can be a key differentiator for car models as well as build brand value for carmakers. With the trend towards integration of smartphones and other consumer devices into the vehicle, the complexity in terms of creating a smooth and non-distractive usability is growing, and the role of the in-car HMI is taking center stage. How you interact with your car will continue to evolve with every new model, enabled by increasingly sophisticated HMIs,” said Christian Reinhard, Head of HMI, EB Automotive. “With the new business model for EB GUIDE 6, we open the door to any developer to design a consistent, multimodal UI via a single HMI development tool.

EB GUIDE 6 was originally developed for the automotive market, but also has applications in other markets, including industrial automation, medical solutions and avionics.

Secure Authentication ICs for Disposable and Accessory Ecosystems
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Microchip
Secure authentication for disposable and accessory ecosystems is a critical element for many embedded systems today. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Xavier Bignalet from Microchip discuss the benefits of Microchip’s Trust Platform design suite and how it can provide the security you need for your next embedded design. They investigate the value of symmetric authentication and asymmetric authentication and the roles that parasitic power and package size play in these kinds of designs.
