Valencell Expands Robust Portfolio of Critical Patents

Raleigh, NC – February 3, 2015 – Valencell, a leader in performance biometric data sensor technology, today announced it has been granted an additional eight patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The new patents are critical to the accurate monitoring and tracking of biometrics across a variety of form-factors, such as earbuds, wristbands, armbands, and jewelry, and bring the Company’s total number of granted patents to more than 20, with dozens of additional patents pending.

“Our team, the world’s most experienced wearable biometric scientists, engineers and certified manufacturers, has developed the most highly-cited patent portfolio covering wearable optomechanical biometric sensor technology,” said Dr. Steven LeBoeuf, president of Valencell. “These new patents support our PerformTek biometric sensor technology’s ability to accurately track and measure a host of biometric data on anyone, doing anything, anywhere on the body.”

The new patents granted include:

  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,942,776, “Physiological monitoring methods”
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,934,952, “Wearable monitoring devices having sensors and light guides”
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,929,966, “Physiological monitoring methods”
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,929,965, “Light-guiding devices and monitoring devices incorporating same”
  • U. S. Pat. No. 8,923,941, “Methods and apparatus for generating data output containing physiological and motion-related information”
  • U.S. Pat. No. D719,860, “Biometric monitor”
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,888,701, “Apparatus and methods for monitoring physiological data during environmental interface”
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,886,269, “Wearable light-guiding bands for physiological monitoring

Valencell licenses its PerformTek technology to market leaders such as Intel, LG, and Jabra. In 2014, Valencell saw a staggering demand for its PerformTek biometric technology, with a 300% increase in licensing partners. Additionally, the Company has expanded into the gaming and first responder/military markets, where highly accurate biometric data and the ability to optically measure blood flow changes, also known as wearable photoplethysmography(PPG), is also in high demand.

About Valencell

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Valencell develops performance biometric sensor technology and licenses this patent-protected technology to consumer electronics manufacturers, mobile device and accessory makers, sports and fitness brands, first responder/military markets, consumer healthcare brands, and gaming companies for integration into their products. Valencell’s PerformTek-powered sensor technology powers the most accurate wearable biometric sensors that continuously measure heart rate and activity. Valencell has invested years into research and development of its PerformTek sensor technology, protected by more than 20 granted patents and independently validated by the Duke Center for Living, North Carolina State University, the Human Performance Laboratory and a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
