National FAA Certification Conference Features Talks by LDRA and Logicircuit

WIRRAL, U.K. and ALPHARETTA, GA, September 23, 2014Cosponsors
LDRA and Logicircuit present talks at the National Systems, Software, and Airborne Electronic Hardware Conference, held this week in Los Angeles, CA from September 23-25, 2014. The conference provides a forum for all commercial aerospace stakeholders to discuss the policy and technology underlying flight safety. This year’s conference promises to have heightened relevance due to the significant evolution in aircraft policies at the systems, software and hardware levels over the past three years since the conference was last held.

LDRA, the leader in DO-178C and ARP 4754A standards compliance, automated software verification, source code analysis and test tools, has worked alongside flight systems suppliers for over forty years, helping many of them achieve even the most rigorous Level A certification. Dr. Mike Hennell, founder of LDRA, helps open the National Systems, Software, and Airborne Electronic Hardware Conference talking about LDRA’s significant role as a facilitator of the DO-178 standard over the past 25 years. As a leader in DO-178B verification, LDRA played a formative role in evolving the methodologies essential for DO-178C compliance.

Technical Sessions Address Significant Changes in Avionics Policy, Stimulate Stakeholder Discussion

Logicircuit, a company focusing exclusively on DO-254 and DO-178C compliance, will address the emerging area of DO-254-compliant commercial off-the-shelf intellectual property (COTS IP) within their sessions. Logicircuit, in combination with Patmos Engineering Services and Xilinx, Inc., presents and participates in the following technical sessions:

  • Practical Solutions for DO-254 Compliant COTS IP
  • SEE Part 2: Mitigation Methods for Modern AEH Devices
  • Trends in COTS Compliance (Panel)

LDRA, who has earned an unmatched pedigree in aerospace, avionics and defense applicationssupporting hundreds of successful DO-178 Level A certifications, will apply this practical, hands-on experience to its technical sessions, focusing on full compliance for DO-178C. SC-205 Committee Member Mike Hennell is joined by FAA DERs Steve Morton and Todd R. White, who have been delegated full FAA approval authority for systems, software and airborne electronic hardware for all aircraft systems and equipment, including engines. LDRA presentations will include:

  • Satisfying DO-178C Code Review Objectives Using CERT C and MISRA C
  • Compliance with New DO-178C Guidance Related to Object Code Verification
  • Compliance with New DO-178C Guidance Related to Data Coupling and Control Coupling

The technical sessions will address changes in policy and practice highlighted in recent policy updates of RTCA DO-178B to DO-178C, including its Technical Supplements, to better guide the production of aircraft systems and software. In addition, the Certification Authorities Software Team (CAST) issued Position Paper 31, “Technical Clarifications Identified for RTCA DO-254 / EUROCAE ED-80,” which identifies technical clarifications, including errors, omissions, obsolescence, and other required details that are needed for RTCA document DO-254 and EUROCAE document ED-80.

As active committee and industry group members for DO-178C and DO-254, respectively, LDRA and Logicircuit are fully aware of how far-reaching these updates are. The focus of their talks and their joint sponsorship of the conference seeks to extend industry understanding of the changes and to ensure industry and regulators have an opportunity to apply these new guidelines into compliance initiatives.
