Cavium’s PureVu(TM) to Enable Best-in-Class Wireless Display Consumer Experience for HTC’s New Smartphones and Tablets

BARCELONA, SPAIN–(Marketwire – February 27, 2012) – The new PureVu-based Medialink HD adapter, when combined with HTC’s media sharing application on their smartphones and tablets, enables consumers with superior content sharing and viewing experience. Whether stored locally or streamed from the cloud, content can be projected from the small screen of the mobile device to the larger screen of a high definition TV. With support for both screen projection and DLNA-based streaming capability, the Medialink HD is designed to turn HTC’s mobile devices into the center of consumer entertainment and media sharing at home.Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications and the digital home, today announced that HTC’s new “Medialink HD” wireless TV adapter uses Cavium’s CNW6611L media SoC to offer superior wireless display and home media streaming capabilities. The launch of the new adapter will coincide with the introduction of several new HTC smartphones and tablets. Based on standard 802.11n WiFi technology, the new adapters from HTC leverage Cavium’s wireless display solution to offer robust transmission of high quality video and audio, while minimizing the end-to-end latency for enhanced interactivity. At a size of approximately 2″ x 3″, this USB-powered adapter is designed with cost structure and a form-factor ideally suited for addressing the mainstream consumer market. Cavium and HTC will be demonstrating the new Medialink HD adapter at their booths at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, from Feb 27th and Mar 1st.

HTC’s Medialink HD leverages the flexibility and performance of Cavium’s CNW6611L media processor to offer superior video quality and robust content delivery over standard WiFi. CNW6611L’s architecture offers the flexibility of a 1080p multi-format media subsystem, along with the raw horsepower of hardware accelerated security and graphics processing, to support various media streaming and wireless display capabilities. In addition, HTC’s Medialink HD adapter leverages Cavium and Montavista’s comprehensive firmware and software stacks, including WiVu wireless display receivers, DLNA digital media renderer (DMR) modules, content protection libraries, media quality of service (QoS) over WiFi, and the graphical user interface library.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by HTC for their new Medialink HD wireless display adapter,” said Kourosh Amiri, Sr. Director of Marketing at Cavium’s Digital Home and Office division. “Cavium has established itself as a leader in WiFi-based wireless display and home media distribution solutions. HTC’s new feature-rich PureVu-based adapter developed in close collaboration with Cavium is a significant milestone in the transition of smartphones and tablets into the center of entertainment and content sharing everywhere.”
