TE selects NEWTWEN as winner of their E-mobility innovation challenge

Company selected from over 80 applications and six finalists for their approach to reducing EV charging time

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – February 6, 2023 –  TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, recently completed their “Power Up with E-Mobility” start-up challenge, a contest that fostered innovation by offering young companies the opportunity to compete for a prize for the best new concept in advancing electric vehicle technology and performance.

“Within the automotive industry, innovation remains critical to success,” said Dominique Freckmann, TE’s Director of R&D and Product Development, Transportation Solutions.  “Finding new ways to raise the bar on engineering excellence and product performance is essential, particularly when it comes to next-generation electric vehicles.  This contest was a great way to foster E-mobility innovation and we couldn’t be more pleased with the exceptional number of ideas that were uncovered to advance electric vehicle (EV) performance.”

Over 80 applications were received, which is a reflection on the enormous amount of innovation and investment that is being focused on E-mobility.  From that incredible response, after careful review, six finalists were named – e-stream, Fast Charge Engineering, Galvani Power, Otonohm, Plasma Innovations GmbH, and NEWTWEN.

Each of those six finalists then participated in an exciting three-day event starting with them pitching their initial ideas to a judging panel comprised of various E-mobility experts from across TE.  From there, each finalist was then teamed with a small group of TE engineers to expand and refine their concepts over the next day and a half before presenting their final proposals for real-time evaluation.

While the competition was fierce, one team stood out – NEWTWEN, an Italian company that provides real-time monitoring software solutions for accelerating sustainable growth and technological innovation.  NEWTWEN was selected as the winner for their unique approach to solving one of the challenges to electric vehicle adoption, the time it takes to charge the vehicle.  As the winning team, they took home the contest’s $30,000 winning prize.

“We are very grateful to TE Connectivity for organizing this competition, a truly unique opportunity that motivated our team to understand this challenging application and apply our technology to enhance TE’s products,” said Dr. Francesco Toso, CEO & Co-Founder of NEWTWEN. “We are truly pleased with the result, as we believe that our embedded Digital Twin solutions constitute an important element in the development of sustainable mobility, which is and will continue to be a real game changer for the future.”

“We want to express our appreciation to all of the companies who submitted nominations and especially congratulate NEWTWEN on winning the contest,” said Freckmann.  “Above all, we were thrilled to see so much energy being focused on E-mobility innovation by so many young, and inventive companies. EVs are absolutely the future of transportation and with so much great work being done, that future is looking brighter and brighter.”
