Syensqo enables next-generation high-voltage smartphone batteries

Innovative material enables safer, more powerful batteries for next-generation mobile devices

Syensqo announces the growing commercial adoption of its Energain® SA076 solution in advanced consumer electronics. The material supports next-generation lithium-ion batteries used in premium smartphones, helping them operate at higher voltages while maintaining safety and performance. Energain® SA076 is now used in lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) battery systems combined with silicon-carbon (Si-C) anodes operating above 4.53V, a key step forward for high-end mobile devices.

Energain® SA076 has reached a new level of industrial maturity, with multiple validated use cases across leading smartphone manufacturers, particularly in Asia. The solution is currently deployed in flagship devices and is expected to be further adopted in next-generation 4.55V mobile platforms scheduled for large-scale commercialization in 2026. Key markets include China, followed by Korea, Japan, Europe, and the United States.

The material plays a critical role in enabling the transition to silicon-anode battery systems by mitigating swelling challenges and enhancing overall safety. Depending on customer requirements and system design, SA076 is used at dosage levels ranging from 5% to 40%, providing flexibility while maintaining performance stability under demanding operating conditions.

“Energain® SA076 reflects Syensqo’s ability to understand the fundamental needs of the battery market and translate them into tangible performance gains for next-generation electronics, leveraging our deep expertise in materials science,” said Dr. Ludovic Odoni, Head of Technology, Battery and Green Hydrogen Materials Platform at Syensqo. “As smartphone manufacturers push toward higher energy densities and voltages, our innovative solution enables safer and more reliable battery systems, meeting the most demanding performance requirements. Its rapid adoption in advanced mobile platforms demonstrates strong collaboration between Syensqo, battery manufacturers, and leading OEMs, especially across Asian markets. We are proud to contribute to the evolution of battery technologies powering the most sophisticated consumer devices.”

Building on this momentum, Syensqo continues to expand its Energain® portfolio to support evolving battery chemistries and higher voltage requirements in both consumer electronics and electric vehicle applications. The group remains focused on enabling safer, longer-lasting, and more efficient energy storage solutions for high-performance applications and cleaner mobility.
