Siemens and OnLogic Partner to Bring Industrial Edge to the Harshest Environments

By combining the automation and software excellence of Siemens with the physical reliability of OnLogic hardware, this partnership empowers industrial leaders to digitize high-value assets in previously unreachable environments.

Industrial computing and edge AI specialists, OnLogic (www.onlogic.com), and technology company Siemens (www.siemens.com), a global leader in automation and digitalization, have announced a strategic partnership to extend the Siemens Industrial Edge (IE) ecosystem into “Extreme Edge” environments where standard hardware cannot survive. By combining Siemens Industrial Edge with OnLogic fanless, ruggedized edge computing hardware, the collaboration empowers customers in minerals, energy, and distributed infrastructure to digitize critical assets that have been previously unreachable.

Bridging the gap from legacy to cloud

Modern distributed infrastructure relies on processing data directly at the point of origin, including high-vibration conveyor belts, wash-down floors, and other locations that would challenge or destroy traditional technology solutions. OnLogic devices act as the “rugged armor” for the Siemens IE “brain”, featuring advanced thermal management, interference-limitting enclosures, and capabilities like customizable I/O to pull data from 30-year-old legacy equipment into modern Siemens apps.

“Siemens Industrial Edge brings real-time intelligence to the point of production in a secure and scalable way. By certifying OnLogic hardware, we’re enabling customers to deploy edge analytics, Industrial AI, and control applications in any environment—expanding what’s possible at scale,” says Torben Poertner, VP Sales for Edge & AI at Siemens Digital Industries. “Our managed edge devices run multiple applications simultaneously on the shop floor, aggregating data and exposing unified APIs to eliminate integration complexity. This partnership accelerates mid- to large-scale edge deployments, enabling customers to scale digital transformation faster and with greater confidence.”

Reducing operational friction and TCO

The partnership specifically addresses the high cost of physical access in remote sectors like mining and energy. The reliability of OnLogic hardware virtually eliminates the high cost and frustration of emergency “truck rolls” to remote sites to reboot or replace failed PCs. By removing moving parts, the joint solution significantly reduces total cost of ownership (TCO) and fulfills strict national critical infrastructure security regulations through hardware-level protections.

“Our hardware is meant to be installed and then left to do its work for the life of the project,” says Roel Weijters, EU Partnership Manager at OnLogic. “This provides the reliable physical infrastructure that ensures Siemens Industrial Edge apps stay online 24/7, keeping vital data accessible at all times. We’re excited to work with the team at Siemens to help make digital transformation possible for previously unreachable assets.”

Zero-touch scalability and sustainability

The integrated solution accelerates time-to-value through systems compatible with Siemens Industrial Edge.

  • Plug-and-play deployment: OnLogic units support zero-touch provisioning via the Siemens Industrial Edge Management (IEM) platform, enabling rapid global scaling of containerized apps.
  • Actionable sustainability: The low-wattage, high-efficiency design of OnLogic hardware helps customers reduce Scope 3 emissions while delivering long product lifecycles to reduce e-waste, helping to make the Siemens DEGREE sustainability standards actionable.

By integrating OnLogic into the Industrial Edge ecosystem, Siemens and OnLogic are unlocking new technology deployment opportunities, ensuring that even the harshest industrial environments can benefit from secure, centrally managed digitalization.
