RS Components introduces latest version of humidity and temperature sensor from Sensirion

Suited to harsh environmental conditions, the sensor adds new membrane for protection from water and dust, as well as pin-type connector for easy integration and replacement

LONDON, UK, 4 April 2019 – RS Components (https://uk.rs-online.com/web/) (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a global multi-channel provider of industrial and electronic products and solutions, has announced availability of the SHT85, the latest best-in-class temperature and humidity sensor from Sensirion, the expert in environmental and flow sensing.

The new sensor builds upon Sensirion’s SHT3x series, which offers industry-proven CMOSens® Technology that for more than 10 years has delivered highly accurate units with long-term stability. Adding to these capabilities, the SHT85 comes with a pin-type connector, which enables easy integration and replacement, and offers excellent thermal coupling to its surrounding environment as well as decoupling from potential heat sources on the main processing board.

Able to operate in harsh environmental conditions, the SHT85 also features a PTFE membrane that meets the IP67 rating. Designed to protect the sensor opening from water and dust, use of the membrane means the response time of the relative humidity (RH) signal is not affected.

“The Sensirion SHT85 humidity sensor (https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/semiconductors/sensor-ics/temperature-sensors-humidity-sensors/?applied-dimensions=4294964931,4294511129,4294883856) is an exciting new product that integrates the accuracy and stability required for a wide range of projects in the industrial field, among many others,” said Andy Keenan, Vice President Product Management
at RS. “The SHT85 is also an excellent complement to our extensive sensors portfolio, enabling customers to select the right device for their application.”

Offering a fully calibrated, linearised and temperature-compensated digital output, other key features of the SHT85 include: final product level testing to deliver a typical accuracy of ±1.5% (RH) and ±0.1°C; an I²C interface with communication speeds up to 1MHz; fast start-up and measurement time; low signal noise; and an operating voltage from 2.15V up to 5.5V.

“RS is an important distribution partner, one that enables us to reach a substantial number of new potential customers – more than a million in fact – operating across a diverse selection of industrial sectors that are key for this sensor and many other of our products,” said Florian Hirsch, Director Channel Sales at Sensirion. “RS’ customer base is key to helping us improve market penetration, and its approach to market with first-class product services and innovative tools and solutions offered via its DesignSpark platform further add value.”

The Sensirion SHT85 humidity and temperature sensor is now shipping from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
