Rohde & Schwarz verifies 5G NR performance and QoE using commercially released smartphones in live 5G networks

Rohde & Schwarz has conducted first field tests of network performance and quality from the end-user perspective on a live 5G NR network using commercially available 5G NR devices such as the Samsung S10 5G. This is an important step to verify that the 5G network performance supports the demanding technical requirements and delivers the required Quality of Experience to the end user. Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions for engineering, site acceptance, optimization, benchmarking and monitoring offer the ability to conduct such measurements using commercially available smartphones.

Munich, June 11, 2019 — The ultimate test of a complete 5G NR network’s successful operation is to verify that the required quality of experience (QoE) is delivered to subscribers by using real 5G devices in live networks. Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions support now commercially available 5G devices such as the Samsung S10 5G, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, Oppo Reno 5G and the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. Rohde & Schwarz engineers have conducted first field tests in live 5G networks and measured key quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) parameters.

Operators wishing to test the quality and performance of 5G NR mobile networks using commercially available UEs can do so now using Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing solutions such as the R&S QualiPoc smartphone-based optimizer, R&S ROMES4 universal network measurement software or R&S SmartBenchmarker network benchmarking software. These solutions cover the full range of tests: video streaming quality and App testing providing full detailed IP and RF trace data using a rooted phone, testing RF, and voice and data testing with a standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) device with open diagnostic ports.

5G NR network test solutions from Rohde & Schwarz are showcased at 5G World 2019 in London, June 12-13, at booth 5G401, the flagship event of London Tech Week. Visit 5G World 2019 to discover how Rohde & Schwarz is leading the development of test solutions that accelerate the adoption of 5G and ensure the network performance and user QoE including device testing in FR1 and FR2, 5G NR network coverage and operation testing and intelligent QoE analytics.

Thermal Management Solutions

Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Panasonic

With shrinking form factors, tighter power budgets, and higher performance, thermal management can be a challenge in today’s designs. It might be time to bust out the thermal grease to help conduct away some of that excess heat. But, before you grab that tube, check out this episode of Chalk Talk where Amelia Dalton chats with Len Metzger of Panasonic about the details, drawbacks, and design considerations when using thermal grease - and its alternatives.
