Positronic Scorpion Modular Power and Signal Connectors available from Lane Electronics

Lane Electronics is an authorised distributor for Positronic, manufacturers of the Scorpion range, reputedly the most versatile modular power/signal connector on the planet.

Positronic’s modular tooling produces a one-piece insulator offering more than 35 modules providing customers with nearly limitless pin configurations and any combination from just one module to many up to a maximum connector length of 101mm. Blank modules are available for greater creepage and clearance for higher voltage needs, venting options can be provided for improved air cooling and there are unique locking systems for blind mating, float mount and cable connector options.

The complete range of standard and low-profile Scorpion modular connectors can all be configured for use as a power connector, a signal level connector, or a combination of both, offering designers an almost endless variety of power/signal contact configurations. The Scorpion series may be used for board to board, panel to cable or cable to cable or board connectivity.

Two versions of the Scorpion series include Standard Profile (14.60mm height), Low Profile (8.20mm height) and there are versions which are compliant to the OCP Open Rack specification used for datacenter equipment. Connecting options include crimp, straight and 90⁰ solder as well as straight press-fit (solderless) PCB termination. Signal contacts can be mixed with power contacts rated to 80A each, users can specify housings with optional ventilation slots for increased cooling and sequential mating offers first mate last break functionality for plugging and unplugging live circuits.

Suitable for industrial, Mil or aerospace applications the Scorpion Series allows designers to create a connector solution that can be exactly tailored to suit their needs.  Nick Wheeler, Sales Director of Lane Electronics, says, “The Scorpion connector series brings a unique approach to modular connector design for this style and size of connector that is only available from Positronic. Scorpion provides the flexibility to configure the connector to meet customer’s exact specifications. The difference is how Positronic builds the final connector, using an innovative tooling and injection molding process. The result is a Scorpion connector with a solid body and machined contacts, ready to perform.”

Lane Electronics can supply a full selection of accessories to add to the versatility of the Scorpion Series.

Customers can also specify Positronic’s proprietary PosiBand® contact, a true closed entry contact with an unbroken ring of solid material right at the face of the contact. This overcomes the weaknesses inherent in the design of many closed entry female contacts being manufactured by several other connector manufacturers. Since the PosiBand® contact provides a greater surface area at the female/male contact interface assures greater reliability. It requires a lower insertion force which is very important in high density connector systems and features very low contact resistance levels. The Posiband® contact is available for contacts #22, 18, 16 and 12.

Lane Electronics is an ideal source for all key connector types including circular, filtered, RF, coaxial, subminiature, backshells and adaptors, D connectors, aerospace, test and measurement, IDC, PCB connectors, edge connectors, connectors for rack and panel application and a range of accessories and backshells from Weald Electronics.
