PHY Wireless Collaborates with Nordic Semiconductor to Deliver Accurate Ultra- Low-Power Location Technology for IoT Applications Globally

Positioning Solution to Be Showcased at Nordic Booth at Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona

San Diego, Calif., February 25, 2025 – MWC Barcelona 2025 – PHY Wireless, a leader in innovative cellular location technology, today announced a strategic collaboration with Nordic Semiconductor to integrate its ultra-low-power location technology with Nordic’s nRF9151 system-in-package (SiP) module. This collaboration leverages 3GPP-standardized signaling to deliver power-efficient, high-accuracy location solutions worldwide with PHY Wireless’s industry-first on-device observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) solution.

To validate the performance and global scalability of this breakthrough technology, PHY Wireless and Nordic Semiconductor are conducting extensive real-world trials across three continents in partnership with several major mobile network operators (MNOs). These large-scale tests ensure seamless functionality across diverse network environments, reinforcing the solution’s reliability for global deployment.

By combining PHY Wireless’ hellaPHY® technology with Nordic’s nRF9151 SiP module, enterprises will be empowered to deploy highly efficient, long-lasting IoT solutions for asset tracking, logistics, critical infrastructure, digital health, and smart city applications. The nRF9151 module, renowned for its high performance and ultra-low power consumption, is an ideal platform for enabling small, space-constrained IoT devices with advanced location capabilities.

“We are thrilled to work with Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low-power wireless connectivity solutions,” said Tom Horgan, CEO of PHY Wireless. “The nRF9151 SiP module provides the perfect balance of power efficiency and high performance for IoT applications. Our collaboration enables customers worldwide to harness the benefits of an accurate, reliable, and battery-efficient location technology.”

“In today’s era of location of everything, PHY Wireless’s hellaPHY technology can become a game changer. Very low power combined with 10x accuracy improvement over comparable cellular location solutions will enable accurate location in massive IoT deployments without compromising battery life or cost,” said Øyvind Birkenes, EVP of Nordic’s Long Range Business Unit. “Accurate location technology that works indoors and geolocation with high security and strong privacy are rapidly becoming important.

PHY Wireless’s and Nordic’s collaboration marks a significant step forward in expanding the availability of low-power location technology to a broad range of industries. It will ensure that IoT devices can operate significantly longer while providing many more location fixes than traditional technologies and operating more efficiently in real-world applications.

Nordic Semiconductor will attend Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, held March 3-6 in Barcelona, Spain. As a key exhibitor, Nordic will host technology demonstrations at its Booth #7G21 in Hall 7 and will showcase the PHY Wireless positioning solution in an interactive dashboard.
