Orbbec Debuts Industry-First Multi-Pattern 3D LiDAR at World Robot Conference 2025

August 8, 2025 — At the World Robot Conference 2025, Orbbec unveiled the Pulsar ME450, the industry’s first dToF 3D LiDAR using a combination of a MEMS mirror and a motor to offer configurable scanning patterns and adjustable vertical field of view.
Under the “Flex to Flow” theme, this breakthrough sensor allows robotics applications to switch scanning modes instead of swapping devices, addressing diverse 3D perception requirements across multiple scenarios.
Dynamic Multi-Pattern Scanning: One Sensor, Many Modes
The Pulsar ME450 transforms traditional single-mode LiDAR design by enabling seamless switching between non-repetitive scanning, repetitive scanning (non-dense), and dense repetitive scanning. Combined with adjustable vertical field of view and rotation speeds, it adapts to various robotic scenarios without the need for multiple dedicated devices.
This adaptable design aligns with the evolving demands of robotics: dynamic obstacle avoidance requires speed and real-time response, while mapping applications need dense point clouds for detailed reconstruction. The Pulsar ME450 excels across smart forklifts, logistics robots, lawn mowers, and surveying equipment through adaptive pattern switching.
The Pulsar ME450’s ability to switch between multiple scanning patterns on the fly enables a single sensor to handle both navigation and fine-grained 3D reconstruction tasks. This reduces system complexity, simplifies integration, and lowers total cost of ownership—without compromising on performance or accuracy.
The system delivers millimeter-level precision with high-fidelity 3D reconstruction capabilities, while its advanced reflectivity detection maintains stable performance across diverse materials and challenging interference conditions.
“The Pulsar ME450 represents the industry’s first multi-pattern LiDAR combining high-precision MEMS pitch scanning with motorized azimuth control,” said Guo Wei, head of Orbbec’s LiDAR R&D team. “By overcoming single-mode limitations, we’re delivering unprecedented flexibility and reliability for robotic environmental perception.”
Scaling Up: Orbbec’s Ongoing Innovation in Robotics Vision
Orbbec has pioneered robotics sensor development in China since 2016, establishing early leadership in service robot 3D vision. By 2023, the company captured over 70% market share in China’s service robot 3D vision sensor segment, according to GGII research. Orbbec now serves hundreds of robotics companies across nearly 100 countries and regions.
With foundational research in SPAD and depth perception dating back to 2017, Orbbec solidified its LiDAR capabilities with the 2022 launch of the MS200 sensor—a milestone that unlocked applications from robotics to autonomous systems. This trajectory accelerated with the 2024 LS635, a high-performance, back-illuminated SPAD SoC leveraging advanced 3D stacking technology, and culminated in the ProMat 2025 debut of the Pulsar SL450, showcasing Orbbec’s end-to-end innovation in perception technologies.
The Pulsar ME450 launch represents Orbbec’s continued expansion in robotics perception. Building upon its comprehensive technology portfolio—spanning stereo vision, structured light, iToF, dToF, and LiDAR—the company strengthens its robotics sensing portfolio to meet increasingly complex application demands.
As a leading provider of robotics and AI vision, Orbbec continues advancing beyond robot’s “eyes” toward integrated “hand-eye-brain” systems and multi-sensor fusion technologies, accelerating the evolution of intelligent robotics perception and the advent of truly capable embodied AI.
