Arm Announces Support for Amazon FreeRTOS

This week, Amazon announced Amazon FreeRTOS with software libraries that simplify connecting FreeRTOS devices to the internet, to the AWS IoT Core, and to AWS Greengrass devices.

This will make it easier for customers to implement new IoT devices securely. Security cannot be an afterthought, particularly for the Arm ecosystem which expects to have shipped 200 billion Arm-based chips by 2021. The Arm Cortex-M ecosystem supports a range of RTOS options, including Arm’s own Mbed OS as well as other embedded OS solutions like Amazon FreeRTOS.

“As we’ve seen the Arm-based microcontroller ecosystem grow over recent years, FreeRTOS has played a key role in enabling embedded developers,” said Rene Haas, EVP and President, IP Products Group (IPG). “We are pleased to see Amazon extend the FreeRTOS kernel with increased connectivity, while adding additional security features. The extended FreeRTOS kernel running on Arm-based processors, is an important milestone toward improving hardware, software, and networking security for the industry.”

In addition to supporting Amazon FreeRTOS, Arm continues to develop and invest in its Mbed OS as part of the Arm Mbed IoT Device Platform. The Arm Mbed IoT Device Platform provides a secure, scalable platform for enterprise IoT, including the operating system, cloud services, tools and developer ecosystem necessary for the creation and deployment of commercial, standards-based IoT solutions at scale. The Mbed security proposition is already built on top of device identity, trusted boot, secure over-the-air software update and certificate based authentication.

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
