Endicott, NY September 2024 – Amphenol Industrial Operations, a global leader in interconnect systems, now offers an AC charging cable with vehicle connector capabilities in accordance with SAE J1772 standards for AC Level 1 and Level 2 charging systems. The ER (easy reconnect) Series SAE J1772 charges electric vehicles (EVs) with alternating current via type 1 vehicle inlets, with installation at charging stations for electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). The ER Series aims to satisfy the growing need for reliable and personal charging as the EV market continues to expand.

Designed for automotive, hybrid-electric, and e-mobility vehicles; this compact, energy efficient vehicle connector utilizes an ergonomic, IP67-rated, integrated charging handle, in addition to unique contact and plating technologies, to achieve higher current ratings and higher mating cycles; while achieving lower temperature rise and contact resistance, compared to other contact methods in its class.

The easy-to-operate ER Series features 3.6 mmm copper contacts with a voltage rating of up to 250V AC and a current rating up to 80A. The connector is also easy to operate for everyday use, given its low insertion/withdrawal force of less than 75N. Coupled with its environmentally rugged design and ease of insertion/extraction, these factors assist in ensuring a longer equipment lifespans by preventing damage to contacts on both the connector and respective receptacles.

This connector has Type 3S degree of protection, making it operable even when the enclosure is covered in ice. It also features Charging modes 2 and 3. Mode 2 is reliable and portable and can be used with a standard household socket or an industrial (CEE) socket. Mode 2 charging can be done with a cable that has the correct plug. Mode 3 is efficient and versatile and can be used with a dedicated charging station or a home-mounted wall box. This mode allows for “controlled” charging, where the car communicates with the charger to determine a suitable charging current before voltage passes through the socket.

The ER Series has an operating temperature range of -30°C to +50°C. It can withstand more than 10,000 mating cycles and 96 hours (about 4 days) of salt spray.

Delivery is 8 weeks FCA ZhuHai China.
