Advantech EI-52 – Ultra Compact, Powerful Edge Intelligence System available from Impulse Embedded

EI-52 for fast development and deployment of AI applications Highly flexible, scalable vendor-neutral, open-source software framework

Impulse Embedded a leading provider of industrial computing systems and solutions can now supply Advantech’s EI-52 which accelerates AIoT deployment, application development and remote device management. The EI-52 combines high-speed 11th generation Tiger Lake processing power with integrated software capabilities and microservices architecture to shorten new product development and deployment times.

With the additional expansion support for AI co-processors such as the Intel Movidius or super-fast 5G cellular connectivity, the EI-52 is a flexible intelligent Edge device suitable for a variety of demanding AIoT applications.

The EI-52 is a compact high-performance system featuring Intel 11th Gen. Core processors and comes with a 64GB SSD and a choice of 8GB or 16GB DDR4 system memory installed. I/O features include dual display output, dual Gigabit Ethernet, four USB3.0, two USB2.0 ports, two RS-232/422/485 and four Antenna break out ports for wireless connectivity. For expansion, there are M.2 and MiniPCIe slots supporting a host of options including the VEGA-330, a co-processor add-on card featuring Intel Movidius Myriad X VPUs, and the AIW-355 5G cellular module offering low latency, high-speed internet connections perfect for AIoT applications. The EI-52 chassis is ultra-compact and fanless and includes a die-cast metal top plate aiding heat dissipation and helping the system achieve a wide-range operating temperature of 10°C to +50°C.

The EI-52 comes with EdgeX pre-installed —an API built on the highly flexible, scalable, vendor-neutral, open-source EdgeX Foundry software framework that facilitates interoperability between IoT devices and applications at the Edge. Using the pre-installed Edge X on EI-52 helps developers avoid delving into different data formats and device APIs for connecting edge data to cloud services. Edge X API supports over 15 industrial IoT protocols including OPC-UA, Modbus, MQTT, REST and BACnet making it ideal for a wide-range of applications. This intelligent system enables edge data pre-processing and analysis and comes with pre-configured tools for quick connection to Ali/AWS/Azure cloud applications. The EI-52 has software/hardware integration capabilities microservices architecture enabling development times to be reduced by up to 50%.

For device management, the EI-52 also comes with WISE-DeviceOn pre-installed, offering several functions like remote monitoring and access of field devices, remote power management and data and device security. WISE-DeviceOn enables the centralized management of up to hundreds of IoT devices in different locations. This means that IT operations of global organisations, with sites across different locations, can monitor, manage, and maintain systems remotely and easily from a centralised control room.

Impulse can fully configure the EI-52 Edge AI system to customer’s exact specification in their UK based engineering facility with user’s choice of memory, storage and embedded operating system.

Impulse Embedded’s systems capabilities can create reliable, repeatable and revision-controlled systems aimed at reducing customer’s overall project costs and development time. Their in-house team of engineers and specialists, all with decades of experience, can provide fully deployable embedded computing solutions straight out of the box.

Want early design analysis without simulation?

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Traditional verification methods are failing today's complex IC designs, which require a proactive, early-stage analysis approach. A shift-left methodology addresses IP block integration challenges and the limitations of traditional simulation and ERC tools. Insight Analyzer detects hard-to-find leakage issues across power domains, enabling early analysis without full simulation. Identify inefficiencies earlier to reduce rework, improve reliability, and enhance power performance.
