Teledyne LeCroy Showcases World’s First SAS 4.0 (24 Gb/s) Live Demonstration at DesignCon 2017

Santa Clara, CA January 31, 2017 – Teledyne LeCroy, a worldwide leader in serial data test solutions, will showcase the world’s first Serial Attached SCSI 4.0 (SAS) live technology demonstration at DesignCon 2017. The next evolution of the enterprise storage standard, SAS 4.0 doubles the effective bandwidth over the current 12Gb/s SAS specification yet preserves backward compatibility to enable easier data center adoption. The Teledyne LeCroy exhibit will feature the Sierra T244 Protocol Analyzer platform, the first commercially available solution for testing and validating SAS 4.0 protocol.

“The first public demonstration of SAS 4.0 operating at full 24Gb/s line rate over MiniSAS HD cabling is evidence that key building blocks for the SAS ecosystem are reaching the market with the quality and reliability needed to enable a smooth roll-out of this new technology,” said Joe Mendolia, vice-president of marketing at Teledyne LeCroy’s Protocol Solutions Group.  “The Sierra T244 SAS Protocol Analyzer provides lossless data capture of 24Gb/s signaling with full decoding of SPL Packet Mode structures allowing fast analysis and debug of SAS 4.0 issues.”

“We are happy to collaborate with Teledyne LeCroy on the industry’s first SAS 4.0 technology demonstration which represents an important milestone for the enterprise storage industry”, said Greg McSorley Technical Business Development Manager of Amphenol Corporation. “This pioneering work in SAS 4.0 cables and connectors demonstrates the continued leadership and innovation at Amphenol’s High Speed Interconnects division.

SAS is a high-performance, full-duplex storage protocol that today operates at speeds of up to 12 Gb/s with next generation 24 Gb/s systems on the horizon. SAS remains the market leader within the data center as a result of its enterprise-class features, price/performance point, and scalability. The SAS 4.0 specification has completed letter ballot resolution and is expected to be published later in 2017.

Optimized for SAS wide port, Teledyne LeCroy’s Sierra T244 can analyze four lanes of SAS 4.0 protocol traffic simultaneously with complete visibility into link training and the dynamic equalization process.  A full complement of hardware based triggering tools are available to pinpoint protocol traffic of interest. The SAS4 protocol analysis suite provides comprehensive decoding of SSP, SMP and STP traffic. Common protocol errors are flagged automatically including forward error correction (FEC) errors and incomplete commands.  The Sierra T244 platform is available with full SAS 4.0 support and up to 128GB of recording memory.  Configurations are also available with SAS 3.0 (12 Gb/s) support that are upgradeable to 24Gb/s in the future.

Availability

The Sierra T244 is available for immediate shipment.
