Innovative, High-Performance Intel Joule Modules Shipping Now from Mouser

December 15, 2016 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry’s leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components, is now shipping the highly anticipated Intel® Joule™ 550x and 570x modules, high-performance devices capable of delivering human-like senses to a new generation of smart devices. Featuring high-end compute and graphics, with support for Intel RealSense™ depth-sensing cameras and multiple high-speed interfaces, the Intel Joule platform enables developers to build out embedded systems or take prototypes to commercial products faster, while also minimizing development costs.

The Intel Joule compute modules are available from Mouser Electronics in two high-performance configurations. The Intel Joule 550x module features a 64-bit, 1.5 GHz quad-core Intel Atom™ processor T5500 with 3 GBytes of LPDDR4 RAM and 8 GBytes of eMMC memory. The higher-performance Intel Joule 570x module offers a 64-bit 1.7 GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor T5700 with burst up to 2.4 GHz plus 4 GBytes of LPDDR4 RAM and 16 GBytes of eMMC memory. Both modules support 4K video capture and display, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® 4.1 connectivity, and a customizable Linux-based operating system designed for Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices. The modules’ interfaces include USB 3.0, I²C, UART, and multiple general-purpose inputs and outputs (GPIO).

The Intel Joule modules are supported by Intel’s vast software and hardware ecosystem, which means engineers can choose the programming environment and take advantage of off-the-shelf libraries and peripherals to further accelerate development. The modules are ideal for computer vision, robotics, drones, industrial Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, augmented reality, micro-servers and other applications that require high-end edge computing.

Mouser is also stocking the Intel Joule 550x developer kit and Intel Joule 570x developer kit, which include the corresponding Intel Joule module mounted on a compact expansion board. The board breaks out all of the interfaces of the Intel Joule module to easily accessible connectors like USB Type-A, USB Type-C, user-programmable LEDs, user-readable buttons, micro HDMI, and two 40-pin input and output (I/O) headers. Each kit also includes a heatsink, two Wi-Fi antennas, a USB cable, and a micro-SD card.
