Icon Labs and Micrium Launch Integrated Security Platform for Internet of Things Devices

Feb. 23, 2016 Embedded World Conference, Nuremberg, Germany –  (Hall 4, Booth 4-350)

Icon Labs (www.iconlabs.com), a leading provider of embedded networking and security technology, and Micrium (www.micrium.com), the premier real time operating systems (RTOS) provider for embedded systems, today announced the integration of Icon Labs’ Floodgate Security Framework with Micrium’s µC/OS-III® RTOS. The integrated solution creates a secure platform for IoT devices and extends the Internet of Secure ThingsTMinitiative into systems and solutions with limited resources.

“Securing the billions of devices forecast for the IoT remains a critical industry requirement,” said Jean Labrosse, president and CEO of Micrium. “However, embedded systems face a number of design challenges, not the least of which are their small footprint. Partnering with Icon Labs builds an additional security framework onto our RTOS, which is already used in a wide variety of safety-critical applications. Working together allows us to deliver a truly best-in-class solution for embedded system security.”

Icon Labs’ Floodgate Security Framework integration with Micrium’s µC/OS-III provides a complete security solution for small footprint embedded devices, including support for:

  • Secure boot and secure remote firmware updates
  • Data protection
  • Crypto and certificate libraries
  • Security policy management
  • Event and command audit log reporting
  • Integration with security management systems including the McAfee ePolicy orchestrator (ePO)
  • Embedded firewall
  • Intrusion detection

“Today’s modern IoT devices and systems are complex connected devices charged with performing broad and diverse functions,” says Alan Grau, CEO of Icon Labs. “Including security in these devices is a critical design task. Security features must be considered early in the design process to ensure the device is protected from the advanced cyber-threats they will be facing now, as well as attacks that will be created in the future. By partnering with Micrium, we are able to offer a complete development solution in which critical security elements are integrated into the operating system, ensuring security is a foundational component of the device.”

Icon Labs’ Floodgate Security Framework is a comprehensive security solution for embedded devices providing security management, secure boot, intrusion detection, secure firmware updates, and an embedded firewall. These capabilities provide the building blocks for achieving EDSA certification, ISA/IEC 62443 compliance, and/or compliance with the NIST cybersecurity framework.

Icon Labs’ products provide embedded security for IoT and Machine to Machine (M2M) solutions such as aerospace, military and space probes, industrial and medical control devices, and consumer electronics products. The Floodgate Security Framework provides a “defense in-depth” solution to protect control units and endpoint devices from cyber threats, aid in compliance with regulatory mandates and guidelines, and gather and report command, event and device status information for audit requirements.

Icon Labs will be demonstrating the Floodgate Security Framework on the Renesas RX63N development platform in the Micrium booth (Hall 4, Booth 4-350) at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany February 23-25, 2016.
