Mentor Graphics Announces PartQuest Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Components Selection Portal

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Dec. 15, 2015 — Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced an extensive online electronic design components library, the PartQuest portal, tightly integrating supply chain research with EDA content.  Printed circuit board (PCB) designers can now evaluate and select logic and package symbol and footprint data, ready for use in their designs. The portal comprises over 434,000 ready-to-use parts and attributes data for over 4 million DigiKey parts. It enables the designer to quickly search for ideal parts from DigiKey’s database, which can then be imported directly and seamlessly into the PCB design along with electronic design automation (EDA) data. Unlike other vendor databases, the PartQuest portal fully integrates physical footprints, logical symbols and part attributes directly into the PCB design schematic and layout tools with ease and high quality development.

The PartQuest components portal eliminates time-consuming manual searches with fast up-to-date, qualified parts which are aggregated from the leading component vendors. With its customizable user interface, the PartQuest tool allows designers to organize their searches by setting aside parts into a “My Projects” folder. PartQuest data files will automatically format to the specific tool flow used during download, making installation and adoption easy. The PartQuest portal is free to customers using the DigiKey Designer® schematic and layout tools, PADS®, PADS Professional, and Xpedition® Enterprise products.

“Our library data provided through PartQuest allows users to make use of our large database of components customized for their use. These components are part of our 7.2 million collection representing over 400 different manufacturers” stated Frank Frank, president, Accelerated Designs. “Our close-knit relationship with manufacturers allows us to stay up-to-date on the parts contained in the Accelerated Designs library. With such a large, growing library, our goal is to provide users with all the data they need to create unique PCB designs.”

Using the PartQuest portal is easy since data is accessible via any preferred web browser. After login, the designer can download only part attributes, parts with pre-associated symbols and footprints, or assign a standard symbol. Searching for parts can be done by keyword searches or using a pull-down “all categories” search by component type. Searches are easily filtered using a full range of criteria (such as RoHS-compliant, lead-free, thickness, tolerance, vendor, size, etc.) to help the designer make the best selections, and specific parts can be selected (or deselected) with the click of a mouse. Users can also set their filters to only search parts that have symbols and footprints; these search results can be stored in the “My Projects” folder for current and future use. The PartQuest portal provides real-time search capabilities and fast integration with EDA tools, saving the countless hours required to research, select and build component systems and footprints.

“As the leader in PCB design automation solutions, Mentor is committed to helping our customers become more productive so they can invest more time in innovation,” stated A.J. Incorvaia, vice president and general manager of Mentor Graphics Systems Design Division. “The PartQuest components portal was developed to prevent the laborious process of specifying the right parts for today’s systems designs. This solution provides the latest, pre-verified parts libraries which are automatically incorporated into the EDA design flow, enabling faster and reliable PCB design development for optimum productivity.”
