Keysight Technologies Introduces USB Type-C™ Protocol Trigger, Decode Software

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Dec. 2, 2015 – Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today introduced the industry’s first oscilloscope-based USB-PD (Power Delivery) protocol decoder software with real-time triggering and protocol decode performance. The Keysight N8837A USB-PD protocol trigger and decode software provides unique protocol decoder performance that enables engineers to verify and debug Type-C interfaces that implement USB-PD.

The Type-C connector introduced the enhanced capabilities of USB-PD. The CC line in the Type-C connector is a single-ended, BMC encoded, 4b/5b signal used for PD negotiation. USB-PD is responsible for negotiating power levels, device type, connector orientation, charging infrastructure and ALT mode multiple-protocol capability. The N8837A USB-PD protocol trigger and decode software allows customers to debug and validate their power delivery contracts, charging handshaking, multi-drop communication and power/data/Vconn swap.

“The Type-C connector is positioned to be the future of serial interface communication between devices,” said Dave Cipriani, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Oscilloscope and Protocol Division. “Our USB-PD protocol decode software continues Keysight’s objective to help our customers meet the revolutionary Type-C technology’s testing challenges with a fully-automated solution.”
