Alpha Data Announces OpenPower-Based CAPI Acceleration Solution for Xilinx Ultrascale FPGA Board

November 11, 2015: Denver, CO & Edinburgh, UK

Alpha Data announces the immediate availability of a CAPI enabled acceleration board featuring Xilinx UltraScale(TM) FPGAs.   The CAPI support package for theADM-PCIE-KU3 will enable designers to utilize Xilinx All Programmable FPGA attached to the coherent accelerator processor interfaces on IBM® POWER8™ systems.  The CAPI kit includes the PSL (Power Service Layer) to provide the infrastructure connection to the POWER8 chip, examples of user defined AFU (Accelerator Function Units), as well as OS Kernel extensions and library functions specifically for CAPI.  This solution significantly reduces the development time required to offload data processing applications to FPGAs.  The  high-reliability Alpha Data ADM-PCIE-KU3 hardware platform is ideal for development as well as scaling to full production deployments.

“Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI) removes the software overhead for processor communication with the I/O subsystem, allowing an accelerator to operate as part of an application.  CAPI on POWER8 systems provides a high-performance solution for the implementation of client-specific, computation-heavy algorithms on an FPGA.  IBM’s solution enables higher system performance with a much smaller programming investment, allowing hybrid computing to be successful across a much broader range of applications.”  Brad McCredie– OpenPOWER Foundation President and IBM Fellow

“The collaboration between Alpha Data, Xilinx and IBM is producing critical performance breakthroughs for next-generation data centers,” said Hemant Dhulla, vice president of wired communications and data center business at Xilinx. “This new Xilinx UltraScale FPGA-based CAPI platform is ideal for customers seeking maximum performance/watt advantage for their for Big Data applications.”

The Alpha Data ADM-PCIE-KU3 is a PCIe form factor add-in card that utilizes Xilinx UltraScale FPGAs to deliver application-specific acceleration for Big Data workloads. The ADM-PCIE-KU3 is IBM Power8 CAPI capable, featuring a Xilinx Kintex® UltraScale : XCKU060 – FFVA1156 FPGA. The ADM-PCIE-KU3 features two independent channels of DDR3 memory capable of 1600MT/s (fitted with two 8GB SODIMMs), SATA connections, High Speed I/O via Dual QSFP+ ports supporting up to 40G Ethernet or 8 x 10G Ethernet links, voltage/temperature/current control and monitoring, air-cooled heat sink with optional fan. OpenPOWER systems with Alpha Data co-processors provide an ideal solution for next-generation data-centers.

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
