Fairchild’s USB Type-C Solution is Chosen for Meizu’s New PRO 5 Smartphone

SAN JOSE, Calif. – October 29, 2015 — Fairchild (NASDAQ: FCS), a leading global supplier of high-performance semiconductor solutions, announced today that its FUSB302, from the industry’s first family of programmable USB Type-C controllers with Power Delivery (PD), is a key component of the new PRO 5 smartphone from Meizu, a major Chinese smartphone manufacturer.
“We are keen on innovating and are committed to building smartphones that offer an excellent user experience, and Fairchild’s product is exactly what we need for our Meizu PRO 5,” said Jacky Ke, sourcing director at Meizu.

FUSB302 is the industry’s smallest USB Type-C controller with PD capability being a mere 1.2 mm x 1.3 mm in a 9-ball WLCSP package. Complementing its small size is its ultra-low power consumption of 25uA (typical), a critical advantage for battery-powered devices. FUSB302 also supports data role swap, power role swap, hard reset, soft reset, active cables and vendor defined messages (VDM) packet transmission. The programmable FUSB302 also provides OEMs superior flexibility, allowing a single chip to enable multiples applications as well as being upgradable for future standard releases.

“Meizu is a recognized innovator in the China smartphone market. We are very excited that Meizu has chosen FUSB302 to add the new USB Type-C interface function to their newest PRO 5 model,” said Jin Zhao, senior director, product line business management at Fairchild. “The USB Type-C interface offers the advantages of small size, reversible connectors, up to 100W fast charging and ultra-fast, high-speed data rate. This addition represents a tremendous opportunity for smartphone manufacturers to improve user experience. FUSB302 enables the USB Type-C interface function on even their smallest mobile devices, with its smallest size and lowest power consumption advantages.”
