Avnet Introduces the Avnet BCM4343W IoT Starter Kit Powered by Broadcom’s WICED and Amazon Web Services IoT

PHOENIX– Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today introduced the Avnet BCM4343W IoT Starter Kit powered by the Broadcom® WICED™ SDK with included cloud connectivity support to Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT. The kit enables designers to quickly prototype and develop cloud-connected devices and then rapidly move to production with a pre-certified wireless SoC module. Technical experts from Avnet and Broadcom Corporation are demonstrating the new kit on AWS IoT cloud services at the AWS re:Invent conference, Oct. 6-9, 2015, Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Avnet has also created a short video to give engineers a preview of the board’s capabilities. The video can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/141201184. The Avnet BCM4343W IoT Starter Kit is priced at $49.95.

The starter kit features an Arduino™ compatible baseboard containing a Broadcom WICED Wi-Fi+BLE+MCU module that combines an advanced Broadcom 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth®/Bluetooth Smart 4.1 SoC with an STM32F411 ARM® Cortex™ M4 MCU supporting 512KB Flash, 128KB SRAM and 8Mb Serial Flash. Application development is supported through Broadcom’s WICED Software Development Kit (SDK), which includes connection to AWS services through an intuitive integrated development environment. The kit simplifies cloud connectivity for designers in a variety of IoT market segments, including industrial automation, building automation and smart home appliances.

“Avnet has worked closely with Broadcom to create a compelling solution for designers interested in adding IoT connectivity to their products enabled by AWS IoT,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “This kit is an excellent starting point for wireless development, sensor and actuator integration, and cloud-based data collection and analysis.”

“By combining the flexibility of Broadcom’s AWS IoT-enabled WICED SDK with a flexible hardware platform that can be moved directly to production with the certified module, Avnet has created a platform that provides a seamless path to production for IoT developers,” said Andrew Hunter, director, worldwide sales at Broadcom Corporation.

The Avnet BCM4343W IoT Starter Kit includes:

  • Avnet’s BCM4343W IoT Starter Board powered by WICED
  • Micro USB Cable
  • Quick Start Card
  • Downloadable WICED SDK, Getting Started Guide, and kit documentation
