Synopsys Releases Latest Version of Coverity Software Testing Platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS) today announced the latest release of the Coverity® Software Testing Platform, the company’s integrated suite of testing solutions that enables organizations to find and fix critical quality and security issues earlier in the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Coverity 7.7 adds coverage for JavaScript and Objective-C and expands the company’s security testing capabilities.

“Our customers build modern applications using multiple development languages and frameworks. Our goal has always been to provide unparalleled coverage and the deepest and most accurate testing platform available,” said Andreas Kuehlmann, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Software Integrity Group, Synopsys. “With the release of Coverity 7.7 we continue to expand our capabilities for both quality and security testing, enabling developers to deliver better software and businesses to deliver safer, more reliable products to consumers.”

New features in the Coverity Software Testing Platform include:

  • Coverage for JavaScript: To predict runtime behavior and data typing, Synopsys has applied innovative techniques for JavaScript, which traditionally has been difficult to analyze. This new solution can find issues such as incorrect expressions, dead code, syntax errors, leaking variables and many more.
  • Coverage for Objective-C: The Coverity Software Testing Platform adds support for Objective-C and is compatible with the Clang compiler and finds issues such as buffer overflows, memory corruptions, race conditions and many more.
  • Security coverage for C#: With deep roots in security for C/C++ and Java, the latest release of the Coverity Software Testing Platform introduces security for C#. Complemented by Synopsys’ recent acquisition of the Codenomicon AppCheck™ product, the Coverity Software Testing Platform now provides full coverage for the OWASP Top 10.
  • Security reporting for development supply chain: Supporting industry best practices and standards, the Coverity Software Testing Platform now offers a security report to show compliance and assign a security grade for each application.
  • Support for MISRA coding standards: The Coverity Software Testing Platform now offers full support for MISRA coding standards in the automotive industry, including MISRA-C 2004, MISRA-C++ 2008, and MISRA-C 2012.
