3 kW Platinum Front-End Ac-Dc Power Supply Targets Power over Ethernet (PoE) Applications

TUALATIN, Ore. — July 21, 2015 — CUI Inc today announced the expansion of their 3000 W front-end ac-dc power supply series with the addition of the PSE-3000-54  targeting Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. The power supply is preset to output 54 Vdc with a factory-adjustable output from 42 V to 55 V, making the model also suitable for a wider range of telecom and networking applications. Key features include N+1 redundancy and hot swap blind-docking capability implemented through the use of a single connector that integrates ac, dc and I/O signals. The PSE-3000-54 delivers a power density of 33.48 W/cubic inch and achieves Platinum efficiency (94% efficient at 50% load) in a compact standard 1U package measuring just 1.6 x 4 x 14 inches (40.64 x 101.6 x 355.6 mm).

The main 54 Vdc output delivers up to 55.5 A with droop current sharing for paralleling of multiple units. The output is floating and features isolation of 1500 Vrms specifically for PoE applications. For monitoring and control of the module, the PSE-3000-54 features system communications via I2C/PMBus™ protocol. For maximum flexibility, the series is available in front-to-back or back-to-front airflow configurations depending on the application’s cooling requirements. Additionally, standby outputs of 3.3 Vdc or 5 Vdc at 2 A are provided. The PSE-3000-54 also offers 60950-1 safety approvals, bears the CE Mark, and complies with all applicable EMC requirements to accommodate world wide applications. Protections for over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage are standard.

An optional 1U 19” power shelf is available to hold up to 4 power supplies for 12 KW parallel operation, 9 KW N+1 redundant operation, or dual 6 KW “A” & “B” output channel operation. The dc output terminal blocks can be configured to be single or dual polarity.

Models with a user-adjustable output from 20 V to 54 V are also available upon request.

Samples of the PSE-3000-54 are available immediately; please contact CUI http://www.cui.com/contact for more information.
