Marvell and Microsemi Deliver Highly Integrated Solutions for Power over Ethernet

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan – (June 3, 2015) – Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) – a worldwide leader in providing complete silicon solutions from mobile communications to storage, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud infrastructure, digital entertainment, in-home content delivery and Kinoma® software enabling the “Smart Life and Smart Lifestyle”  –  today announced it will incorporate Microsemi Corporation’s (NASDAQ: MSCC) Power over Ethernet (PoE) power sourcing equipment (PSE) offering into its industry-leading turnkey manufacture-ready reference designs, bundled with software solutions. The combined technologies from Marvell and Microsemi will enable a large range of IoT and other connected network applications including wireless access points, 4G/LTE small cells, sensors, IP cameras and lighting.

Pervasiveness of the Ethernet infrastructure has been driving PoE adoption at a rapid pace enabling a variety of intelligent networked applications and sensor-embedded smart industries. PoE is one of the most widely deployed technologies to power connected devices in an enterprise and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) environment. It is a cost-effective way to enable better communication, collaboration and ease of management without compromising ease of quick deployment.

The Marvell Prestera® DX family of packet processors enables secure, high-density and intelligent 10GbE/2.5GbE/1GbE switching solutions at the access/edge and aggregation layers of campus,  industrial, SME and service provider networks.

“Production-quality reference designs and tightly coupled software and hardware integration with our ecosystem partners accelerates time to market for ODMs and OEMs,” said Ron Cates, Senior Director, Product Marketing, Marvell Semiconductor, Inc.  “Marvell’s Prestera DX packet processors and Alaska® Ethernet PHYs in combination with Microsemi’s PoE devices are driving industry-leading solutions with PoE capabilities.”

“Microsemi is pleased to offer such a highly integrated PoE device, enabling an IEEE802.3bt ready PSE solution today,” said Iris Shuker, PoE Marketing Manager for Microsemi. “The integration between Marvell’s switches, PHYs and Microsemi’s PoE reduces overall cost, creating a best-in-class solution for enterprise and small and medium-sized enterprise markets.”

Microsemi’s sixth generation power source equipment (PSE) solution is highly integrated with only one capacitor per port. A very low port resistance (less than 350mOhm) enables a high efficiency, low dissipation design. The architecture enables up to 95W per port. The solution is IEEE802.3 standard compliant (802.3af & 802.3at) with support for IEEE 802.3bt enabled by a software upgrade. Reference designs with Microsemi PoE devices and Marvell Prestera DX switches are available now.

Marvell will be demonstrating its switching solutions during Computex June 2–5, 2015 as part of its award-winning, diverse product portfolio advancing the delivery of cloud services throughout the ecosystem and powering today’s revolutionary Smart devices.
