Semtech Launches New 2A Reverse Blocking Load Switch Platform for High Efficiency in Consumer Applications

CAMARILLO, Calif., Mar 16, 2015 — Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the SC33020H Load Switch platform in a tiny 0.9mm x 0.9mm, 4 bump Chip Scale Package (CSP) with industry leading Ron of just 32m‡. The product debut is in conjunction with the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Expo (APEC) in Charlotte, N.C.

The SC33020H load switch provides power rail control for up to 2A with reverse current blocking protection for both portable and non-portable devices, including wearables, action video cameras, smart phones, tablets and more. Semtech will highlight its new load switch at the APEC expo on March 15-18, in booth 110. In addition, Andy Khayat, Senior Director for Consumer Power in Semtech’s Power Management Group, will be presenting advanced power solutions in Semtech’s “Greener, Smarter, Smaller Power Solutions” seminar on Tuesday, March 17, at 3:45 p.m. in room 213BC.

“The SC33020H reverse blocking load switch gives designers effective power rail control and protection and enhances system performance due to the ultra-low 32m‡ Ron,” said Andy Khayat, Senior Director for Consumer Power in Semtech’s Power Management Group. “Circuit designers can now achieve robust designs with extended battery life.”

The switch accepts 1.6V to 5.5V supply input rail and whenever the output voltage goes higher than the input rail the switch blocks current from flowing in reverse direction to protect sensitive upstream circuitry or to prevent excessive power leakage loss in application standby states.  The reverse blocking feature is present at all times regardless of the switch ON/OFF state.  The Load Switch is ESD-hardened to greater than 4kV for robust circuit protection.

Key Features of SC33020H

  • VIN Range: 1.6V to 5.5V
  • IOUT: Up to 2A
  • Ultra-Low Ron 32m‡
  • Reverse Current Blocking in ON or OFF state
  • 4kV ESD Protection
  • Chip Scale Package 0.9mm x 0.9mm x 0.60mm, 4-bumps at 0.5mm pitch

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
