World’s Smallest MEMS-Based Magnetic Reed Sensor Released at MD&M, 2015

February 10, 2015 – Anaheim, CA (USA) – Coto Technology Inc. has announced, at MD&M West, 2015, the release of the World’s smallest MEMS-based magnetic reed sensor – now HALF the size of the original award-winning design. The high-performance RedRock RR100 has a number of medical device applications including portable insulin pumps, capsule endoscopes, next generation hearing aids, insulin pens, medical wearables, and other small, battery-powered medical electronic devices. The RR100 has been nominated as a top finalist by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine for the Innovation Challenge Award . (Winner announced on February 11.)

The RR100 sensor offers all of the advantages of conventional magnetic reed sensor technology in a package measuring only 1.11mm3. Ideally suited to the demands of next generation medical, automotive, instrumentation, and industrial applications, the sensor offers directional magnetic sensitivity, ESD resistance, and a robust wafer level package, all while consuming zero power.

The RR100 meets the strict power constraints of battery-operating portable devices and electronics, suiting the needs of emerging medical device applications, including ingestibles and implantables. Its small size and directional magnetic sensitivity allows for high-resolution fluid level and position sensing. Further, the directional sensitivity reduces the risk of false triggers in sensing applications. The two pad wafer-level package saves on precious board real estate and mass when size and circuit complexity are critical. With closure sensitivity ranging from 10 to 25 milliTesla, operation from up to 20mm away is possible using a small NdFeB magnet. See Coto Technology at MD&M West, Booth #583.

PRICE AND DELIVERY

Currently, the Coto Technology RedRock MEMS-based magnetic reed sensor RR100 is available through Coto’s distributors at a single unit price of $19.95 (with very competitive pricing for high volume applications). An evaluation kit (RR100-EK) is also available through Coto’s distributors. The kit sells for $69.95 in single piece quantities.
