Rockchip Achieves First-Pass Silicon Success with Synopsys DesignWare IP Portfolio

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ —

Highlights:

  • Rockchip accelerated project schedule by months with a range of DesignWare USB, HDMI and MIPI IP
  • Acquired silicon-proven IP solutions that delivered significantly higher performance, lower power and smaller area, surpassing alternative offerings
  • Focused engineering efforts on product differentiation with confidence that the USB, HDMI and MIPI interfaces would function as expected
  • Reduced integration risk with broad IP portfolio compliant to industry-standard specifications

Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a global leader providing software, IP and services used to accelerate innovation in chips and electronic systems, today announced that Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Co., Ltd. (Rockchip) achieved first-pass silicon success for Rockchip’s mobile application processor system-on- chip (SoC) using a wide range of Synopsys’ DesignWare® IP. Rockchip accelerated their time-to-market by months and got a head start over their competition in the fast-moving mobile industry by integrating DesignWare PHY and Controller IP for a range of USBHDMI and MIPI IP. Rockchip selected Synopsys’ DesignWare IP because of its high quality and strong combination of low power, high performance and small area, which is critical to meet the requirements of the mobile market.

“Our customer’s next-generation mobile devices required low-power, high-bandwidth connectivity in a tight development schedule, so we needed a trusted IP partner like Synopsys to help us achieve our design and time-to-market goals,” said Cottice Lee, chip design director of Rockchip. “We have used Synopsys DesignWare IP since 2006 because it is consistently superior in performance, power and area compared to alternative solutions. Selecting IP that has been silicon-proven and is compliant to the USB, HDMI and MIPI standards gave us confidence that the IP would work as expected and allowed us to focus our engineering resources on our proprietary SoC multicore architecture.”

“As a leading IP provider, Synopsys understands the importance of delivering proven, high-quality IP that incorporates the required features and enables companies like Rockchip to focus their engineering resources on the differentiating parts of their design,” said John Koeter, vice president of marketing for IP and prototyping at Synopsys. “Rockchip’s success with DesignWare USB, HDMI and MIPI IP demonstrates how we continue to help companies lower integration risk and quickly deliver innovative products to their competitive markets.”
